I'm just wondering how far spread the custom of advent calendars is.(boxes of chocolate that you eat every day until Christmas Eve, with numbers for each day of December) I want to know where people are from, and if they do or don't do this.

EDIT: The poll closes on Christmas, just for relevancy's sake.

My grandma sends me and my brother one every year, without fail.

We do, although we don't always get chocolates. :)

My family doesn't do that. I'd actually never heard of one until this thread.

Not anymore. I think I'm too old for that, but it's still a nice thing to do though. I used to get the advert calendars from my grandma, till 2 years ago.

My little sister still gets one though. Oh, and I always ate the chocolate every morning, couldn't wait to get the chocolate out of it :)

Same story here as with Memorex, we used to get them but after a certain age we dropped the whole Sinterklaas (5 December) and Chrismass thing and really don't celebrate it in any shape or form except for a family dinner and a christmastree.

Well, now you have. Judging from your location, signature, and posts, you don't seem like the target group for them. So so far it seems like the Dutch stop after a certain age, looks like 13 or 15, and in the USA it seems like people either get one every year or have never heard of it before. Perhaps a tradition originating in the Netherlands?
