I've always been interested in the search for extraterrestrial life. Well, I have an interest in space in general. Do you believe aliens exist?

Statistically it would appear that they should.

Given the size of the universe one might expect there to be a few other evolved species out there, and if not - even more likely that there have been over the course of the history of the universe.

Considering the hugh size of the universe and its shape, it is almost certain that aliens exist. So even if there are aliens, and even if the conspiracy theorists are right and the goverments know about such beings, I think it's good for us all not to know about it. Some secrets are meant to stay secrets.

Why? If there are aliens out there who have the technology to solve many of the world's problems, why should they be kept secret?

Why shouldn't they be kept in secret? Assuming they are stronger than us, asking for their help is not a good thing. It is humanity's mission to solve its problems, more advanced races should not help us. More advanced races shouldn't even know about us, just think about the danger. Their effect might be too strong, especialy if we can't understand them; think that God was an alien, and now look at the human civilization. Do you really need a better explanation than this example? Also, the goverment has its reasons; it knows what it does. The people who control it are supposed to protect you, even if it means not telling you some secrets. If you don't know wether aliens are good or bad (or even exist), don't expect your goverment to tell you about them.

That still doesn't justify the government not telling their people about life outside of Earth. So what if the people know? It's not like they have a means of contacting these aliens. Hell, if they told their people, perhaps you can expect to see more donations towards NASA and even further space advancement due to all the hype.

Any alien that is able to travel to Earth is guaranteed to be much more sophisticated than anything on our planet.

if the government knows about them then they surely know that we exist, and they know where we live.

lol. The government does not know what is best for the people. Is sending people off to prison camps and torturing them good for the people?

Going by what we know of the Universe at this time and plugging in the numbers from Drake's Equation there should be thousands if not tens of thousands of worlds teeming with Alien lifeforms.

Unfortunately the little buggers have never been here or have been very diligent in covering their tracks.

Just for a laugh or two...

If conspiracy theories are to be believed, and new ones pop up almost daily...

There are three major Alien races who have been in contact with earth.

1) The Nordics. Blond hair, blue eyes, and tall and slender, almost elven like. They supposedly came to the earth post WW2 and offered to befriend mankind and guide us to the enlightened path. The US Government supposedly asked them to share their advanced technology but they refused saying we would surely destroy ourselves because we were not mature enough to be entrusted with such power. They are said to still be here on earth watching over us and have a almost elven look and glowing skin. Sounds almost like a description of Angels.

2) The Grey's. You know who I mean. Short, grey skin, big eyes, fondness for abducting humans for research and experiments. Supposedly the ones who crashed at Roswell. The US asked them to share technology and they said yes. On the condition that they be allowed access to a certain number of humans of a gene type of their choosing for genetic research and experiments and they be allowed to have a base in the USA. The US Government under Truman allegedly agreed. Yes the Asgard from Stargate SG-1 are based on reports of the Grey's.

3) The Reptiles. Supposedly able to shape shift and blend in with humans, they walk among us and are said to have infiltrated all levels of government and society. They are power hungry, greedy, and want to plunder earth of resources and see us slaves and as food. The Nordics and the Reptiles are said to be battling over the fate of Earth as we speak above the earth.

4) The Nephilim. OK not so much extraterrestrial as extra dimensional. Standing between 12 to 18 feet tall, blue skin, red hair, and six fingers and six toes on their feet and hands. These are the Giants of old, the stuff of legends, the Offspring of the Annunaki. They are for the most part immortal except for a fatal allergic reaction to copper which can kill them. They have Psychic powers, can track a person by their DNA makeup, and are incredibly fast and powerful. According to stories told recently a USAF pilot flew a SOCOM team out of A-stan that killed a Nephilim, after it wiped out the first team and most of the second team.

But hey its all just stories and conspiracies, no proof of any of it exists so no worries.
