Incarceration in the United States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

If we have more people in jail than Russia and China, something is definitely wrong. One reason why we have the most people in jail is the war on drugs. You can be incarcerated for possessing any illegal substance. Do you think we will always be the leader in prison population because it looks like there is no end in sight to this ridiculousness.

I think it's really stupid as hell. "hey man what are you in for?" "I had a a gram of pot on me"

Yeah, for years I've been rambling about this. It's pathetic that they call this place the land of the free. Its quite the opposite.

They should just fine you for carrying the drug if they are still going to outlaw it.

But how will we get illicit drugs like marijuana off the streets if we don't punish the drug users by locking them behind bars? Think of the children!

Yes, that was sarcasm. I get cynical when I'm bored.

Compassion has died in the legal systems America and England, among others, embrace. We punish people for seeking to escape the boredom and horrors we have thrust upon them while questioning not why they are there or how they got there. It's all just a fucking sick joke. Pick a side and revel in it, the only hope apparent is that no power can be abused forever without incuring a certain consequence.

They really should just throw some fines on carrying drugs. I think it would be too much to just make 'em legal right now, but if you fine it you make money instead of losing it in prison costs.

I think they should get fined an X amount of money per how much drugs they have on them

Well, a certain drug level or drug substance (hard drugs: Heroin, Crack, Cocaine, LSD, Meth, etc. etc.) should demand a house search and then a practical rehab system. Also, what if they can't pay the fine? Many can't and thus the consequence remains the same.

The prison system is and always has been a very ineffective way of dealing with crime. Reform would do so much more, but would give so little to those who desire vengeance, but Justice shouldn't be about Vengeance in the first place.
