I was watching this documentary on MTV called "I'm still here" and it was about a survivor of the holocaust. I was shocked to hear a statistic that 53 percent of American high school students don't know what the holocaust was. Some claimed that it was a jewish celebration or some type of weapon. My question is: Why aren't we teaching this important aspect of history anymore? Are high school students just not paying attention anymore? I thought that the holocaust was common knowledge... :cort:

Most of the general American public, sadly, are complete idiots. Many don't know who the current president is. :cort:

Wow, so after watching a show on mTV you have come to the conclusion that the American education system sucks due to some people not knowing about the holocaust?

Actually, the Holocaust isn't the only thing that kids in American high schools don't know. I don't really blame the system, however. I blame the students themselves, because many are extremely immature and the teachers really don't have any control over their students. But, many people do know quite a bit, and are usually pretty mature and care about their education. The education system itself is alright, I get a great education, mainly because I listen to my teachers, don't screw around and actually.. get this.. do my homework. Many kids do not do their homework and fail or receive horrible grades in turn. Perhaps if more discipline was enforced, then students would pay more attention.

It was actually a very informative program regardless if it aired on MTV or any other channel. I suppose you have no idea what the holocaust is...

I bet you're scrambling in the words "holocaust" on google right as I type this...

A holocaust is a bug, right. Wow, your posts get even more stupid. Congrats. Don't generalize from something you watched on MTV FFS.

Here in the U.S., if the kids can't pass the test, we just lower the standards.

A majority of Americans are hyponized by the Reality shows, McDondalds Hamburgers, and Babes, they are in apathy about the real issues and the concerns of the world today.
