What I'm trying to do here is make sure you know what you're talking about, because something you'll notice is that a ton of threads around here are about firearms.

I'm from Lancaster County and this whole thing has just been crazy. It's hard to comprehend why someone would do something like this, and especially something that resembles the Colorado attack a week or two back. There are two things I just cant get my head around: 1) He was depressed, he was angry, and he was just, essentially, FUBAR. Why kill children if you're sorry for doing something 20 years ago? Obviously he wasnt the most stable of people. 2) Why the Amish? After the death of his daughter he hated God, were the Amish a representation to him of God? Was he seeking vengence on God? The Amish try and keep away from the modern ways of this County and they're pretty successful at it. I mean, it's not like they are ultra reclusive, my family and friends are on fairly good relations with an Amish family who let's us duck hunt on their land. Why such a peaceful people?

I was watching them interview a member of the Amish community this morning on TV (surprisingly enough) and the thing that blows my mind is their position in all this. He basically said that their community feels bad for the family of this man and they forgive him for what he's done. They also feel sorrow for their loss but they understand that God wanted and decided to take their children from them in this manner. I just cant understand that kind of compassion and forgiveness given what took place that Monday morning.

If you think about it, probaly nothing. There were probaly crazy people long before modern society, they just didn't have acess to explosives or firearms, and there weren't even really very many schools to threaten.
