Just thought this sounded interesting and I thought I'd share it. I also felt compelled to use it since it actually happened here. :) Israelis convinced: Mossad behind Dubai hit - Mideast/N. Africa - msnbc.com Thoughts? Opinions?

I read the wiki on Mossad, and these guys seems to do some fairly shady secret-agent type stuff. I can understand the need for some of their non-violent actions(gathering intelligence, helping defectors, ect.). However I don't agree with the kidnappings and assassinations. While playing like hamas gets things done, it is not seen as the good thing do to because it makes you no better than what you are fighting.

Killed him and screwed it up.
Happens, left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. They've messed up massively before.
Someone else killed him and framed them.
I don't think that Israel is really going to suffer much diplomatically from it - not like they can acquire a much worse reputation unless they go out and rape babies or something - so I'd cross out the second option just because it wouldn't serve much point.
They want to make it look like someone's framed them.
For a similar reason I don't think people would have much pitty even if it turned out Israel had been framed so that's option three down.
They want to make it look like they're incompetent.
Plus side you can move around more freely, downside you suffer politically. Of course someone might have been convinced to fuck it up by a third party so that the person in charge would suffer politically.
I wouldn't write off the second one two quickly. IF this was Mossad they didn't just mess up, they royally fucked up in several different ways. They were spotted on camera throughout the entire building, used pretty crappy covers (who would suspect Israeli's of wanting to murder a leader for Hamas, lolright?) and were just all around bad. I have to imagine the Israeli spy agency is a bit better then that.

Though it's entirely possible they just fucked up. I don't really have a problem with it having been them though. Shoot someone in a hotel room and it is an assassination, blow them up on the battlefield and it is just another casualty. Doesn't make much sense to me, the world is a battlefield and every death is just another casualty.

See, now I'm wondering if Mossad knows of its reputation, so it knows it can get away with stuff by just being completely brazen/appearing incompetent.

"What, you think we'd do something like that? Come on, those must've been amateurs, how could you think we'd do something so sloppily?"

The problem with assassinations in the Mid-East is that since everybody hates everybody, anybody is the suspect for any body.

It probably is the Mossad indeed, crappy execution could have been a royal screw up or they couldn't care less to leave their fingerpints all over this. As Nem said, their (Isreal's) reputation can't sink much lower. Neither can that of Hammas though.

Im not sure Mossad did this.

This operation was either done incredibly inefficiently or else it is a deliberate attempt to leave a trail to Israel.

Since it was a Hamas member of course everyone looks to Israel but who else has a beef with Hamas and wants them removed?
