Religions of compassion would be easier to believe if churches weren't quite so profitable to rich people. Religion seems largely an excuse, inherited with such a broad array of possible interpretations as to fit any man born into it, and then perverted to the wishes of his station. People get religion and then continue as normal. If I saw the LDS missionaries stopping to help the homeless rather than trying to convert them I might be more inclined to join a church.

I don't think the church was to blame in this case. Like others have said it's the people. And if it wasn't this church it would be some other faith - god or no god the crazies are around us.

Jeffro;5254345I wanna know why you have a devoted fetish for me. If you want sexual relations with me, Nite, it's not going to happen. Time to walk over that bridge, bud.

No Im being straight serious. I never hear about the stories you post until I click your links. I just want to know how you find them so I can read the other stupid ones that Im sure you dont post...unless you post them all. I already have little faith in humanity, I just need that last little bit of motivation to nuke it from orbit.

gravy666;5254354Is it me, or does it seem that the institution of religion loses more credibility with every waking moment?

It only seems that way because people will more easily see crazy religious folks as being crazy because of their religion, than it is to see un-religious crazy folks as being crazy because they don't have religion.

All in all, humanity as a whole is crazy. And its saddening. :cort:

Well the thing is (if you're raised where I'm from, anyway), the idea is that religious people more insane because they believe that they are basically hearing voices in their heads tell the people that what they are doing is a good deed as far as their own religion is concerned.

And then, there are just so many interpretations of religion anyway. Like how so many people read the Bible, but one person believes that it's telling them to not kill, while another person believes that being a suicide bomber is a glorious way to end one's own life.

Well as far as this lady, I don't care what religion you're in, you don't starve a child that can barely speak because it didn't say amen.

As far as everything else, not every single religious person hears voices in their heads. And the fact of the matter is that most religions (monotheistic religions) stem from the same story, but split with Abraham. As far as other denominations, I dunno, but there are people, there are religious people, and there are crazy people.

Crazy people are crazy because they are crazy and we have no one to blame for their craziness but themselves.

Killer Kyle;5254002More people making my belief system look bad.

Your belief system makes itself look bad. Explain to me the Crusades, the Spanish Inquisition, all the kings and dictators who justified their rule in god, the persecution of homosexuals, the persecution of scientists, racism against Moslems, etc.

And if you didn't know, any fascist dictatorship ever has had strong ties to the christian church, even getting support from the clergy. Hitler, Francisco Franco, and Mussolini were all Christians.

All of that speaks for itself.

You've got a good point. No one person, or even a group can degrade a cult's perception in the face of it's own history. No, that belief system earned that all on it's own.

People who have taken the belief too far, some to the point of corruption.

Stalin, Mao, Kim Jon Il, and Hitler were just some of the many terrible human beings who were not Christians. Hitler did court the churches for the purpose of power but he himself was not Christian. In fact one of the goals of the Nazi party was to eliminate Christianity.

I'm glad we're all on the same page.
