Did not see any threads on this ( if so delete please) http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/02/21/port.security/index.html

I am all for fair play but this is a major decision that could affect us big time if something were to go wrong. Also, two of the hijackers in the September 11, 2001, attacks on New York and Washington came from the UAE and that the hijackers drew funds from bank accounts in Dubai, the financial center of the Persian Gulf.

Is this whole situation being over exaggerated or do we have a serious issue on our hands? I'd like to hear from both Bush supporters and haters. Lets keep it clean ;) (I put Bush in the subject line so Mihail's script can pick it up ;))

First off, don't simply accuse Bush of hypocrisy. It's being exaggerated to an almost extreme, from what I've seen. Apparently, there is a ton of economic opportunity, but again there is the "risk" of letting an alleged terrorist supporting organization that much closer to "our shores". I don't know that much on the issue just yet.

So what if two of the hijackers were from the UAE? That's no reason to judge anyone else from there. A company based there can be just as respectable as any other. It may not be, but then again a european or american based company might also not be.

Well, the worrying aspect is that the UAE has allegedly harbored and supported terrorism. It's an understandable hesitency.

Even if that's true, it seems rather unlikely that that company has anything to do with terrorist. They shouldn't have to suffer for the mistakes other people make

If the arabs own the ports and we have direct control(meaning US customs, soliders seaching containers an ships)over the securty then I am fine with. If the arabs would run it all themselves then I would be worried.

I think it's fine for them to run the ports, we just need to make sure the FBI trails the companys leadership around. And if anything goes down than the company's leaders will be killed by the FBI as terrorists.

Awesome, the police trailing people and killing them if something "goes down", it's just like the Gestapo!

Ok, i have done some research........

The US would handle all security (The Coastguard) It would be AMERICAN workers still working there, no one gets replaced with foriegners

The UAE company would oversee day to day operations, shipping schedules, etc........

Im still leary on this........
