Seth_Soldiernot really since us army is paying mercenaries and is using the new "iraqi" army to do the dirty job. Notice that the new iraqi army is see as collabo army (pejorative word for assistant, a little bit like "traitor under an other flag") and are hated by the majority of the population. And when you see that 99% of the insurgent are native irakian ... i think us army will be kept on a little corner in te desert but will still there

The Iraqi security forces are not hated by the majority, unless you consider the majority to be the Sunni minority who oppose the new Goverment. Most people just want the fighting and suicide attacks to stop.

Yes the Iraqi Security forces are doing more of the fighting, is there somethging wrong with them fighting for their own country? That was the whole point of training them.

What you are calling Mercenaries are working for a Security Corporation and are mostly involved with security and bodyguard jobs. They are not normally involved with field missions.

If, as in some cases, as much as 50% of the insurgents captured and killed have been foreign then how can 99% of all insurgents be Iraqi?

what is really embarrassing, it is not to see an interview full of optimist soldier (ok a little bit) but the fact that they were coaching to answer in an certain direction ... ( if president is asking you that, caporal *** keep the micro and don't give it to the other soldier etc ...)

This information is coming from an international reporter .... About the percentage of native insurgent, it's coming from an american general, it was quote a lot in an other topic (will try to find it when i will have got more time). Us army is just trying to say that the mvt of resistance is composed of foreign fighters. So they are doing some operation on the border (and sometimes in syria) to hide that this war have helped alquaida to set-up in irak and now recruiting in the iraqi youth. You know, sunnit are not the danger in iraq ... but you can always answer : " ho , but most of the iraqi insurgent are sunnit because they are still loyal to saddam ... they are frustrated ..." or something like that to hide the truth. About the mercenaries, it mainly comes from mercenaries of the ex-excecutive outcome and its ex-president (i hope you know them) who doing the dirty job (torture by example). if you want i could try to give you more information on mp (for not to change the main subject of this topic in an other iraqi war subject)

Just because the article said it was coaching, doesn't mean that they were telling the soldiers what to say. What it describes is a rehersal where the soldiers were told who to pass the microphone onto if a certain question was asked, this done so that someone in the right area of expertice would answer the question. You wouldn't want someone stationed on the Syrian border answering questions about the situation in Bagdad, would you?

An American general should be a very credable source of information, unless you have significant accredited articles to refute his claim. Now, that doesn’t negate the chance that foreign fighters account for a disproportionate share of the casualties, but it still shows that much more than 1% of the insurgents are foreign.

Us army is just trying to say that the mvt of resistance is composed of foreign fighters. So they are doing some operation on the border (and sometimes in syria) to hide that this war have helped alquaida to set-up in irak and now recruiting in the iraqi youth.

Why undergo a large operation and divert significant military resources away from "the real problem" to counter a “fake threat”. It could temporarily hide "the truth" that 99% of the insurgents are native, but it would leave the area with "the real problem" with less men and open to huge problems. It wouldn't hide the "real problem" for very long.

Why is anyone suprised that a Presidential conference was staged? Its been happening for years. Its nothing new. Just yet another time for the democrats to complain about something. After all, they have been strangly quiet since the Myers nomination.

The Daily Show had a pretty funny bit on this where they juxtaposed the rehearsal with the "real thing".
