Well, ladies and gentlemen, the letter came today. As most of you know, my name USMA represents the college that I will be attending, the United States Military Academy. What most of you do not know is that I enlisted in the United States Army on my 18th birthday for delayed entry. Well, I got my orders to report for training in late November, early December, the exact date I am not sure of. I enlisted as a military operational specialty eleven-bravo, better known as an infantryman. For eight weeks I will be at basic, learning the ins and outs of soldiering, and hopefully getting my expert badge with the M16-A2 rifle. I doubt that you will be hearing much from me until after basic when I get leave. But I do have a few months before I have to report. Just thought you guys might want to know about this, as GamingForums has been a large part of my life for roughly the past year and a half. Just as a note, this is not like I am not going to West Point. Many cadets spend time as an enlisted soldier before going to the Academy. That way, they can be better leaders as they have experience as to what they can expect from privates and other enlisted personnel.

Good luck. Hope it all works out for you. Be sure to report back often so we know you're still with us.

Wonder why military muppets around the world thinks that 8-10 weeks should be necessary to go through the basics?

8-10 days is more than enough.:)

Good luck. You'll might be sent to Iraq if we're still there next year, but I don't know. Good luck again.

Basic marksmanship alone takes a lot of time to practice. Teaching people how to stand at attention, provide first aid, use radio equipment, it all takes time. And let us not forget about combat and movement skills. Trust me, it takes time. But at least I know the basics like operation of an M-16, how to march, salute, et cetera, and the phonetic alphabet. I'll be sure to report back whenever I can! But remember, I still have a short while before I head out.

USMA2010 Trust me, it takes time.

Sure it does, since most of it is wasted on drill and making beds "correctly".:)

Good luck and great job getting into the academy. Once you become a plebe we won't be hearing from you for a long time. I'm pretty certain that your computer access is very restricted. I know it is at VMI. Not so sure about West Point.

So your acceptance to west point is deferred until you get back? How long will you be in the army? Good luck.
