This is borderline "General Discussion" worthy, however I thought these cartoons taking a jab at consumerism were just great. Time to share:

The rest of the cartoons on that site aren't too shabby either.

Good job on the pun.

I don't get the one about the rats...

And I never knew they put phosphoric acid in fizzy drinks...

I don't think consumerism is as bad as it seems. When I think about it most of the people I know don't really care about money or things, the people around them are far more important. Maybe I'm just very blessed to have the friends and family I do, but I just don't know anyone all that superficial. Sure we like the gadgets that come out, but that doesn't seem unreasonable given how bitchin they are.

It's really relevant to people stuck in deadbeat jobs, clinging to the belief that if they work hard, they'll get rewarded. They'll be given some "treats" (promotions, bonuses, etc) to keep them going, unaware they're ultimately being used for the benefit of someone else.

And as long as I get paid and support my family well, I really don't give a damn that some people make more then me. It doesn't affect me, and taking away their wealth will NOT make me better off.

It's basically a jab at the american dream - everyone can get everything with enough work. Also, many consum...social capitalism often tends to claim that it puts everyone on the same starting line, everyone has the same chance to ascend to greatness...it's just around the corner.

Of course, if you were to replace those little posters on the side filled with adds, to something communist related for instance, they'd fit exactly the same. Except that that would keep talking about all of ratdom instead of just yourself.

The cartoons are nice, but I have a feeling consumerism is here to stay until something big blows up.

The American dream requires one to be unconscious.

We are all slaves to "freedom", living for the weekend, working for the richer to get richer, working each day for a reward of nothing, until the day we die. There is no hope for mankind? But there is hope, that hope is Jesus Christ!

...is he the homeless guy that rambles on about how the government planted a chip in his head?
