Another of my simple questions, quite relevant to today.

Should the internet be censored?

Is it the shining pillar of free speech, to be defended, or the world's collective intellectual arsehole, to be plugged?

Is some censorship justified, in the manner of child pornography? How could/would/should the boundaries, if any, be drawn?

What sort of international agreement could work?

Should the "tubes of the internet" be seperated into different ratings? See http://forums.filefront.com/showthread.php?t=265906 also, though this is much wider ranging than this.

I'm against censorship. Childporn is one thing though, that I believe SHOULD be censord.

I don't believe in international agreements, since the differences between countries are so big. For example, in USA, censorship is videly usend, a very simpel example is music for example. The word fuck is many times censord in American music videos. Europe on the other hand has a very liberal attitude towars censorship. Most countries in EU doesn't even have a censorship-agency, or whatever i should call it. Many europeans thinks its okey to ban childporn etc, but besides that, I can't think of any other thing that we wouldn't tollerate, really.

No limitations should be inforced. The internet should remain free from political and special interest bullcrap.

I think pornography is fine since they will start to be taxed alot soon(or have they begun that already) but child porn is one thing that SHOULD be censored.

Overall, no. Countries can ban things from being hosted in their country and block/pursue as the law dictates. The Internet should be left alone otherwise, Ted Stevens has no idea what he is talking about, no idea whatsoever.

Child porn should be prosecuted, not censored. Besides crimes like that, the internet needs to be free. You're right, it is a pillar of free speech. I would like, no, love, to keep it that way.

No, the internet should be left alone, the bad things, like people said, should be taken care of, but everything else should remain free. It's the basic idea of the internet, a free and unrestrained flow of information. If you get rid of that, what do you have?

The internet as it is now works. Speed it up, by all means, but otherwise, don't touch it. It's not broken, don't try to fix it.

Actually, internet is censored already. In China for example, there is sensible sites that Chineese people just can't reach by google.

The internet does not need censorship. Anyone with basic PC skills can filter out all they don't want to see. The internet is one of the greatest devlopments of all time. No other time in all of history has information been this free. I want it to stay this way.

A shame. But some people think they way they have it over there is the only way it can be.
