BBC News - British man said to be mentally ill executed in China

Despite pleas from the UK government, the EU, and the family the Chinese today executed a man who everyone says was mentally ill and was duped into carrying luggage that did not belong to him.

Supposedly the Chinese legal system refused to take into consideration the accused mental state.

IMHO this is just another example of China thumbing its nose at the west and saying there is not a dammed thing you can do about it.

Or its a example of how China is still in the state that it believes disabled people are a plague to society, then again there culture is vastly different then ours.

Typical, China rattles its mighty fist to show it is still in control...China takes Communist Manifesto quite literally; if you are not part of the solution (contributing to society), you are part of the problem...Loved the scenery, loved their people, hated their government...it was very difficult keeping my pie-hole shut when I used to take business trips there. Part of the problem is too many of the people are content being treated like sh't, or just don't seem to care...(notice a pattern my fellow Americans?). It's the young people of that country who will be the ruling party's Achilles heel...seeing it already. The young have tasted capitalism and love their things and the wealth western nations send their way. I'm sure that is pissing of the hard-liners.

Man, if only they didn't own our country. That would make it so much easier not to tolerate this.

Well, what the hell are the British going to do about it? I'm not saying that I agree with what the Chinese have done here, just that I can understand how they think they can get away with anything these days.

Hell, they've been basically stealing from the collective western economy for years now, and we haven't done squat about it.

Well...playing devils advocate here for a minute. From China's perspective we've all become a bunch of whinny-do-nothing hens...China has practically bitch slapped the world repeatedly over the past few years, sat back and watched as we've done nothing. They know they have us by our collective cunt hairs and they are embolden to do whatever they want. In short they are apathetically above the rest of humanity. I'd presume, they see themselves as the viper and the rest of us as mice and rats cowering in the corner...oh sure they see the once proud mongoose...but its too busy regurgitating the fucking asp it swallowed and trying to keep the fucking nagging rats off of it to do anything about the viper.

Meh. The guy broke the law, and the punishment was death. I understand that he was mentally ill, but as Americans are so fond of saying, nobody is above the law. And after decades of condemning the Chinese government of not adhering to this standard and allowing outrageous corruption in China, you now turn around and condemn the Chinese government for treating this man like any other person? What a double standard.
