This video is just a taste of how consumerism is shaping our culture, our health, and our future. Exploiting children (and adults) in order to gain profit and life long consumption is deplorable, however the question remains. How do we stop this raging beast? Are we so far into this materialistic abyss that we no longer possess the ability to overcome such a monster? I can see it now. In 2030, we'll be nothing more than a *3rd world mall plantation with "education" kiosks that inform you on the benefits of consumption. Great music artists of the 20th century (such as Rick Astley, Michael Bolton, and Hannah Montana) will be revered in monologue format over the speaker system like Vietcong propaganda. Any type of media that displays an inkling of social consciousness or relevance is outlawed as Dane Cook (whom now is our culture minister) spazzes on about how tomatoes are the bastard children of fruit. And when 12:00 PM hits, every radio/television/internet browser will freeze as this pre-recorded tape of the president airs. He shouts out the national motto with such reverence and pride:
"Consumerism is our god. Wal-mart is our Jesus. Complacency is our playground."

You are over-reacting so much it's ridiculous. I'm not sure how to comment any more than that really. Suffice it to say my personal experiences entirely contradict the idea of "commercialization" or "consumerism."
How to stop this raging beast? Censorship

How do you get around it? Wait. Just wait. You don't need to do anything.
Capitalist economies are based upon the idea of constant expansion of both production and consumption to counter the problem of centralised wealth. As much as it is a representation of production money is a representation of what people value, by extension it is a way of viewing and manipulating a certain social relationship. The rich need to necessitate their position within that relationship, people must always be able, (and willing,) to buy from them. The poor need to necessitate their position within it, the people must always be able to work. Without this you don't get a trade going on, your money is worthless. The problem comes, and it is a long term problem, at the conflict between these two ideas and the basis of a company: to get more money.
There's a finite amount of money within the system, and the more of it located in one place the less there is in circulation, or in short the weaker the social relationship between the producer and the consumer, as social roles, becomes. To bypass this conflict you need to either revalue the remaining money within circulation by increasing production and lowering costs or create more money by printing it against a perceived future gain in production or against borrowing - which is where the ideas of investment and deferred inflation come into the picture.
Needless to say this cannot go on forever, the more efficient you make the system the more efficient you make the connection between production and consumption at multiplying each other in order to counteract the devaluing of the social relationship, and the faster the system proceeds towards eventual collapse.
If you're worried about rampant consumerism you don't have to do anything; there's an expiry date built into the system. Either it changes or it dies.
lack of censorship killed the economy of UK.. yeah thats all i have to add..
lol, looked at the thread title and thought it might be about eating useless children hahaha. but yeah, i really hate watching commercials and advertisements on tv. it is like having money has become more important than self realization and seeing how lucky you are to be a human and not an ant or rat or something. why can't we all just embrace our sapience and lucky tissue within us rather than using each other to make money? really can't comprehend why money has such a huge role in society...
wow i sounded like such a douche right there. but i just think that all companies should be doing what they do for the good of mankind and stuff, rather than just the monetary gain. i guess i get really 'activist-y' when i have been up for 20 hours...
Economic Crisis + Overpopulation = The end to your problems I doubt there will be enough resources to support this structure. It's what got us into this mess in the first place!
