Cuba: U.S. embargo causes $1 trillion in losses - World Watch - CBS News

Cuba's been taking this issue to the UN since 1992, and this year will be the 20th consecutive time. This is more a symbolic issue to show the US is mostly alone in maintaining the embargoes. Last year's vote saw only US and Israel vote against the measure. Before then the US could also count on strong allies like the Marshall Islands, Palau, and Micronesia, but they abstained for that vote. The other 187 members voted in favor of the measure.

The US justifies their position by stating that Cuba hasn't 'reformed' enough and wants an issue with a detained 'aid worker' resolved.

I think the US will wait until Castro passes away before they really consider ending the embargo.

The US and Israel are probably going to find themselves increasingly alone. Pretty daft to continue blocking them.
