Other people want independence for South Ossetia, Chechnya, or Xinjiang. This man wants independence for an island he lives on....alone.

Other people circumnavigate the world. This man circumnavigates Britain....and fails.

Hill, 65, has lived in the Shetland Islands on the edge of the Atlantic since 2001, when his boat capsized there during an unsuccessful attempt to circumnavigate Britain.

What more needs to be said?

Well if things get bad he can appeal to the UN for aid.

This reminds me of the Family Guy episode about Peteoria where Peter declared his house and property independent from the USA.

Peter didnt get into trouble til he decided to annex Joe's pool and the US Army intervened for humanitarian reasons.

Funnily enough people always rebel against us because of taxes.

Power to teh little guy!

Honestly, I don't see how this could hurt, I mean really, his supporting argument is 30% bullshit and 60% irrelevant, but it's a worthless island with that one lone dude living on it, even if people do come (tax evasion for the desperate), it's still easily controlled should anything happen.

Let the old man have his island I say!

Sure, let him. But I don't think he's going to last too long...who's going to protect him from invasion? Take the case of Sealand's "invasion" and "occupation", for example...

2.5 acres and he lives in a tent?! :rofl:my neighbors backyard is 2x that! how the hell did he get his own web site?

its funny because it really is like that Family Guy episode, that would just be hilarious if they let him go! i mean what if he dies? or what if somebody kills him, then they could say they killed off an entire civilization

They could declare war and just send over a couple of cops
