Dr. Awesome;4719367Over 2/3's of those you listed aren't really bad. Just the Nazis, Catholics, and slavers.

Exactly what we were thought to avoid...

I wish people would make sence, especially in the pub.

If you can't say they are bad, and you are thought to avoid them. Wtf?

You said they are bad and that is what we were thought to avoid nothing else. I better run...

Jeffro;4719377Should the persecution of the Jews during the crusades be considered genocide or am I just missing the mark on this one?

gen⋅o⋅cide –noun the deliberate and systematic extermination of a national, racial, political, or cultural group. (genocide definition | Dictionary.com)

If we use this definition, the persecution of Jews during the crusades (and not only during this period, pogroms were common during the entire Middle Ages) is not genocide. Most of the time public consternation had the killing of Jews as a consequence. It often happened during bad economical times, and the great plague (damn jews poisoned the wells!). However, it was the public, the mob, that wanted to kill the enemies of Christ. The kings of the different European countries protected the Jews, whom they needed for financial reasons.

The people needed a scapegoat, and as a result Jews died. So I guess it was deliberate, but certainly not systematic.

Of course! How true a statement, no matter how incorrect. I mean, when you die, no more problems you gots, precious!

Yeah. That's cause you dump all your problems on your next of kin.

I was of the opinion we knew farther back than three thousand years...two thousand years would be the Roman empire, but by what you're saying, I'm being told nothing recorded happened before that?

I may have been a bit hasty with that figure. Maybe 5000 years would be a bit more accurate.

Over 2/3's of those you listed aren't really bad. Just the Nazis, Catholics, and slavers.

I disagree. Depending on your morals and definition of good and bad, all of those could be defined as 'bad', just like, conversely, all of them could be defined as 'good'.
