In a few recent posts, I criticized use of bad grammar, and AzH told me to keep it on topic, so I decided to create a new topic on the subject! Wonder how someone can be so stupid as to make a certain grammatical/spelling error? Want to correct them but stay on topic? Here is the place where you can list all of the annoying grammatical/spelling errors that you notice anywhere in Gaming Forums! For instance, I noticed a few things today:

  1. Someone said something along the lines of "there will never be a woman President." Have you ever heard of the word "female?" Use that word instead. I mean, you wouldn't say "there will always be a man President." It's not like we're talking about man-whores here. You would use the word "male" instead.
  2. When you want to use the word "a" before a word that starts with a vowel sound, such as "egg" or "octagon," use the word "an" instead. It sounds much nicer...and it's easier for others to read.

Anyone else have any complaints about crappy grammar/spelling?

smart ass. ;)

don't let this turn into a bash thread or you'll be bitch slapped, but yeah, poor grammar sucks, especially 'txt' language. however, we have to consider that this is an international community so not everyone will have first class English.

also, consider the habits of others. i, for example, don't capitalise my words (except for names), this is bad grammar, but i don't care. it's what i've been doing for over 10,000 posts and i'm not going to change it.

many also make the mistake of confusing a typo for shitty spellnig. a typo is a typo.

EDIT:

"Wonder how someone can be so stupid as to make a certain grammatical/spelling error?"

Want to correct them but stay on topic?

just to note, these sentences are poorly constructed. you should have started them with "Do you". starting them with "Wonder" or "Want" is lazy, and bad grammar. i just thought i should point that out, Mr. Grammar-Nazi. ;)

I can't stand "ur" "u r" "teh" or the like.

My name is Bill Brasky, and yes, I'm an Alcoholic.

if a person is tryin to spell and correctly construct their sentenses, then i dont mind if there are mistakes. "u" "u'r" and those words, however, are not good. it is annoying and can make reading a post most difficult.

i, personally, dont like to go farther than tryin to spell correctly and keeping most grammar laws in order and under control.

I agree that the lack of grammatical fluency in this world is just appauling, I do. To be quite honest, when I first joined Gaming Forums, I didn't make too much of it or give it serious thought. I had the common tendency to use words such as "cuz", 'u/ur" and "wat" in my posts. However, as I progress along (both here and in school), my position on the issue began to change dramatically. It is so frusterating to me the quality of education in the K-12 school system these days that I suppose the least I can do is speak with a half degree of sophistication. I am much more concerned over correct spelling, capitalization, punctuation and grammatical correctness than I was not but a year ago. Furthermore I tend to feel a bit more respect for those that I witness doing the same (not to insinuate that I do not show everybody general respect).

Even if I am ever caught with any mistakes, I welcome and appreciate corrections and positive criticism.

littered with errors. :)

you need an extra 'L' in appalling, and no 'U'.

there is one 'M' in dramatically.

no 'E' in frustrating.

and no 'L' in sophistication. (although i assume this one is a typo).

you need an 'A' in capitalization.

and an initial 'T' in punctuation.

see, this is the point. no matter how careful someone is, mistakes happen so what's the big deal? also consider regional differences; capitalization/capitalisation. both are correct, one is American, one English.

does anybody really care about a few minor issues?

hopefully not. my grammar and spelling are quite lacking. i couldnt put a sentense together when i joined Gaming Forums(when i speak, it is nothing but the Queen's English mind you.)... i couldnt type either. took me 3-6 minutes for a simple post.

Thank you azh. 'tis fixed (for the most part).

I tend to make more mistakes when I type faster, which is typically when I rapidly process thoughts. I am not THAT anal, but I correct myself whenever possible.
