Pvt. AchillesWhat do you think. Do you think that what we do on earth matters after we die? Do you believe in afterlife? Heaven? Hell? Do you think that your actions now have no consequences? Let me hear it.

Now its time to hear my dark thoughts: After we die, there is nothing, not even blackness. Our bodies decay and return to the elements they were created from. There is no heaven or hell, these were created by religion to make us do good in life to keep us from going to hell and being good enough to get into heaven. Every action has a consequence, but that consequence might as well be a coincidence.

After we die, we are forgotten, we live on in the memory of a few. When they die, we are lost as distant thoughts in the lives of their descendants, we exist only as a name. People throughout history have been forgotten, only their names and notable actions exist, their personalities, childhood memories, favourite toys and food are forgotten. Every human who does not contribute to a historic event is insignificant to the rest of us. We no longer remember our ancestors who lived 150 years ago, we know only their names at best. All that remains of these people are their names on a piece of paper in a filing cabinet in some church or government storage facility. The things that make us human are lost, all that remains is our names.

One thing is certain though no-one is 100% Atheist and no-one is a 100% Religious.

Not strictly true. I have no doubts. My mind is open, but not to the possibility of their being a God.

The answer is he doesn't we do. He gave us the free will we so desired when Eve ate that first apple.

This is a fundamental part of my evidence against the existence of God.

Free Will vs Omnipotence.

An omnipotent being know everything that has been and everything that will be. God already knows what you are going to do, even before you have thought about doing it. I ask, how can you have free will if your path is already decided for you? If you choose to believe in God, you also choose to believe that you have no say over your actions.

For example. He knows I will post this, therefore I have no choice in the matter. However, if I delete this text and decide not to post, he knew I was going to do that. I was never meant to post, yet I believe I have made a choice either way.

Comments?

I don't care/think about what happens after someone dies. I have experienced a lot of deaths in my short lifetime, and I still haven't ever really pondered on where someone goes after they die, all I know is that they're gone. =]

LuetchyboyAt what point did time begin? If it started what was there before it? Will it end or is time cursed to exist forever? I think we are all created with a level of faith inside us, some of us will wake up in the morning and thank god. Whilst others will only call to god in desperate situations. One thing is certain though no-one is 100% Atheist and no-one is a 100% Religious. We all have doubts, yet we all have points where we think there has to be something out there. One issue that can be made is that if people followed religion we would live in a better place. My Experience. A couple of years ago or so two girls disappeared. ( I didn't know them or anyone connected to them personally ) But I felt this certain feeling of anger inside I couldn't comprehend how a God so loving and great could allow this to happen. The answer is he doesn't we do. He gave us the free will we so desired when Eve ate that first apple. He does not create evil, we do. Would you want to live in a society where no evil ever existed but we lived knowing nothing but pure good (the definition of pure good is nothing of which can be deemed evil or bad in any sense, the seven sins etc.)

Lutcheyboy knows his stuff. And; you must remember this: a certain amount of suffering can be good for us, it humbles us. After we die, depending on what our hearts were like, we go to Heaven, Hell, or Purgatory.

i dont know whether god exists or not, but i definetly know that the humans need the "concept" of god , to have a certain order in the things

the thought that a supernatural power is watching what we do and we will be punished or rewarded according to the things we do here is a powerfull deterrent

and with out it the human race would have been much more destructive and orderless than today

as I said in another thread awhile ago. I'd like to think theres a afterlife. but I'm not putting my hopes up. I don't know if it matters what you do or not, but personally it's about my own personal morality that I care about so I'm not going to do something foolish. And since I don't know what god to worship I prefer to worship them all. Allah, God, Buddha, Shiva, Zeus Etc etc etc

I don't care what people believe really, (although it is interesting to debate,) but I think it's important that everyone believes in something.

I'm sorry Al, but right now I have finals and I just don't have time to debate that essay right now. I would like to say however that you made an excellent point. And were I not born and raised christian I might become atheist. But I cannot just let go of my beliefs. They make too much sense when the pastor says it, but you make sense as well. I almost wish that there was no god, because then I could do what I want. Have sex before marriage, lie, cheat, etc. without guilt. But that is also a morality thing too, not just a religious thing. If I have time this summer, I will send you a PM replying this topic, though this thread will be long gone by then. But I'll do some research so at least I'll look intelligent for a 15 yr old to you. sound good? For now I'll just listen and respond. But it is coming. You can count on it. Remind me in a couple of weeks! *EDIT* I have saved a copy of your long post/paper on my comp so as to have it on hand when I can write back when I'm not working.
