There's no way you can have a totally open mind, people are always closed minded to some things. I claim to be mostly open minded, since I think I'm open minded to everything, but I know that there are times - that I usually forget - where I just don't accept something.

The only time when keeping an open mind isn't important is when having a discussion about something that is purely opinion based. This applies to religon. I believe there is a God, and nothing that anyone EVER says to me will convince me otherwise. But when it comes to politics, social issues, the millitary, technology, those sorts of things I always keep a completly open mind.

I consider myself very open-minded. It's very important for a scientist. :)

I'm not sure if I do. :( I try to keep an open mind, but on certain issues such as religion it is difficult.

I wouldn't have abandoned the Republican party entirely if I weren't open minded. I think it takes a good deal of open-mindedness to go from Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter to Noam Chomsky and Howard Zinn. I try to maintain an open mind here on GF especially.

It depends on the situation; if a person is is talking to me about something that i am in the dark about, or know relatively little, I will keep the most open mind i can as long as they don't start trying to convince me of their view rather than just expressing and explaining it. If the subject is something i already have a stand on, i will still be willing to listen, but will come into the conversation with some reservations and, although not purposely some bias, it's only natural. So, therefore i belive myself to be moderately open minded.

MrFancypantsI don't like to lose, but if I find out that I was wrong I try to swallow my pride and learn from the mistakes. It also depends on the kind of discussion. Generally, keeping an open mind is a good thing, but sometimes it's also good to argue a bit for what you think is right.

Agreed once again. Having an open mind is good but morals also come into play.

Keeping an open mind an often be as much as just remaining respectfull and showing understanding (even when you disagree). On the other hand, being totally open minded doesn't mean you can't stick to any morals tough even if they might not go hand in hand with 100% objectiveness or openmindness. :clueless:
