In my opinion i think yes they do, althogh they are in the entertaiment bussiness they could get paid less than the millions which they are paid currently. Post you thoughts here and have fun :)

If people are willing to pay that much to see some guy kick a ball down a field, I say good for him! The only reason teams can afford to pay such high salaries is because there are millions of fans who attend the games and watch them on TV. If their money is channeled into overpaying athletes... good for the athletes!

With football or any sport. At 40 to 45 years old your done. Your joints are ripped up, you have arthritis, and you don't want to do anything. Paying them millions a year is ok, since they will be done at 40 to 45 and they need some money to retire and live comfortably on. Though millions may be a little too much, but they are today's heroes. Some of them are overpaid though, you are going to die with ten's of millions and not give a cent to charity.

The president gets paid 200k a year yet a football star will get 10 to 15 times that with a single contract. Shows where us American's place our priorties;) Most presidents are millionares to begin with, so 200 grand is a drop in the bucket to them.

I'm not a specialist, but I guess you have to be a rather talented player to get that kind of money. Those people just used their talent and ambition to make money, just as other people do.

But could you imagine how much less suffering in the world there would be if a fraction of the football players money goes into charity? As you said, same thing goes for doctors, they get paid 100,000 at a max, and they save lives yet footballers play a bit of football for 90min and get paind more than a doctors 5 year sallery. Doctors are far too superior when it comes to their skills, a doctor has to be inteligant to be successfull and footballers dont need no education except footballing skill.

I think getting paid large sums of money for sports is a bit ridicilous. The people earning the most money should be carers, doctors, etc not celebrities. Oh well.

Are we talking about European football or North American football, just for the sake of curiosity?

Even though Soccer players (like players of Golf, Ice Hockey etc.) train their neck off to get on the top, are "done" when they are 40-45 years old and face injuries, paying them millions of dollars/euros for the job they want to do is exaggerated & even ridiculous if you ask me. Many Soccer teams can hardly afford their huge player wages and many top players think like they are some kings, just because they can kick soccer well.

Still, as the saying goes: it's not the one who asks, but the one who gives. Sure the players "accept" millions of dollars/euros if the teams are ready to pay them. There should be some payment roof/ceiling like in NHL.

You should call soccer football. The European football is way older then the American football. So it should be football and American football IMHO.

If they are overpaid? Hell yeah they are overpaid. But sinse people are fine with it, there isn't anything you or I can do about it, is there?
