Well, upon request from the thread "The Mind" I'm opening up a new thread for discussion about dreams, how they work, what can trigger them, and more importantly, anyone (like myself) who has the ability to remember their dreams please post them here if you wish! Whether it has an interesting story behind it, or you what some help figuring out what it means (if that’s of any importance to you) or whether you simply seek to entertain... So, please join in! Once we get a few going I'll share some of my own aswell!
Voice of joy and sunshine
26th May 2003
I was hanging in mid air outside a fenced off crypt in a graveyard, typical dark and misty. Felt a presence, like something pushing at your chest but I didn't seem to have a visible body and when I spoke it was like the voice you hear when you read; not really hearing it. More the intention that something be expressed.
Typical 'you shall not pass' dream.
I was outside a warehouse, razor wire fences, military guards. Felt light, like when you take a heavy rucksack off after running for a bit. Could move very quickly, flittered among the pallets outside and went in. Split level corridor, walls made out of corrugated iron. Went into a little security room and edited myself out of the vision of the people in the warehouse so I would be invisible.
Big web in storage room in the middle of the base, there was a blue glowing thing in the centre of the web. Scientists milling around doing whatever it is scientists do with strange glowing things. Probably getting ready to die, I mean if you can see the blue glow in the air you've got what, a few minutes? Then super powered soldiers came and there was much getting beaten up, until I ate the glowing thing.
Cut to being in Scotland on the edge of a city and an asteroid was coming, wide open spaces like a park. Ran across the road, dived into the harbour, bright flash, woke up somewhere else.
Scarcity of info from the fact they're from relatively long term memory. =p
I only remember my dreams when I'm not dog tired when I go to sleep so the number of dreams I can recall is relatively few since I haven't been getting a whole lot of sleep lately.
Most of my dreams don't translate well into stories anyway. They're short snippets, little situations. You're at the top of a building and someone pushes you off; your parents smash your face in with a hot iron; you're young, crazy strong and running across an empty dock in a cave beneath a castle with monsters chasing you and a class of rich school-kids looking on.
That last one was actually really cool. Your body would finally do what you wanted it to do, tremendous feeling of freedom.
Dreams tend to be, for me, more to do with how you feel than the events themselves.
That said: Anyone else get those weird dream logic things? Like where your gun isn't working and you can't figure out why until you start to wake up and realise you had the gun the wrong way around and were pulling the trigger the wrong way?
What do I think dreams are? Your mind churning over bits of information from the day, the result of the chemical balance in your brain adjusting from the day's build up? I don't know. Those'd be my guesses.
It's easy enough to draw comparisons between my dreams and some of the media I've been exposed to. Though whether that's a causal relation or just a comment upon the uniformity of experience. *shrug*
I didn't make it!
Sex dreams. As with all adolescent boys, I have had a nice share of sex dreams. But, one that really confused me was: I had broken up with my girlfriend that day and when I went to bed I had this freaky sex dream about her. It confused me to no freakin end. I thought I was done and didn't want to be with her, but then I had that dream.

For the logic you speak of? Yes it is almost always missing in mine, but usally in the form of environments changing rapidly without explanation. And more interestingly, when different places I know are thrown into something, to make a new place. And with mine there is a for sure, un deniable truth that my dreams are connected to events happening around me, many of which that I haven’t done yet and plan to do, or events that are ongoing and I just see them in different ways in my dreams. I also think it’s extremely important for me at least, to figure them out, for they often provide answers to me for things when I have none. And my dreams can be a short "snippit" of a story, or then can be a long tale that takes time to explain, the longer ones are usally the most interresting ones..
I tend to remember key parts of a dream. But one that struck me as odd the most was a dream I had a while ago.
From what I can remember I was standing by a tree in a pretty hilly with dead grass and a pinkish (?) sky. then a grenade lands next to my feet. I try to toss and kick it away but I feel like I don't have the strength to do it. From what I can recall, my dad was next to me.
I've even had one or two dreams where I'm attacked by hydralisks from Starcraft... strange.

There are alot of things that could mean, speicaly with your dad being there too... however, star craft? NICE! I had a dream that had darth vader in it before, that was interresting.... :lulz: EDIT- However most of the dreams I remember (even dating back long ago) were VERY searious, however they tell a very interresting tale
One of my dreams, just last night, was in a school of some sort, but it was made up of sections, or segments of both my High School, and elementary school. And many classes that made no sense, I was in a class that taught how to make leaves... how to draw them, and how to give them water.... we had little lab tables that you used droppers to put water on leaves for... lol However then there was a lock down, but only some parts of the school, and some few poeple had maps on their cell phones to get out, and we had to find someone with a map, and they told us how to get out safely, however we stayed in class anyways? lol, and many of my teachers where in the dream, but none of them teaching what they really teach. EDIT- Im very sorry this dont make sense do to grammar fails, I've been up for like 30 hours, and I can no longer spell check my work right lol

This is just one of the dreams that were strange enough for me to fully document. I was up in the mountains. I was leading a group of kayakers through the mountain’s streams. At one point, we came upon a flooded cave. The strange part was that the water was unmoving, despite the rapids just outside. Curiosity got the better of us as we turned our kayaks, and rowed our way inside. Inside, we were greeted to a site looking very similar to China’s Reed Flute Cave (See the first spoiler.). The lighting inside this cave, however, was completely natural. From the walls protruded large crystals of all colors. The crystals seemed to be bioluminescent, emanating the light and colors from within themselves. In such a surrealistic environment, neither I nor the crew could think of any words to speak. We rowed the kayaks to what seemed like a naturally-formed dock. We commenced to stand on dry land to explore our surroundings. At the far wall, we saw what looked like a natural archway. As we ventured through the archway, we were greeted by a narrow, but deep canyon spanned by yet another archway; this one forming a natural bridge similar to America’s stone arches (See the second spoiler.). Halfway over the bridge, we heard a commotion coming from deeper within the cave. It was at this time that we realized that we were not alone at all. Upon reaching the other side of the bridge, we proceeded cautiously. We had no idea what awaited us in just the next room. It was here that I blacked out. I have no recollections of the events that took place in the meantime. When I awoke, I found that I had been stripped of the Kayaking suit that I had been wearing. In its place, I found that I was dressed in what appeared to be Viking-style clothing. Upon looking around, I found that I was alone in a very small room. There was no sign of what may have happened to the group I was leading. I was soon joined by a large man with a bald head, but a long and blond beard. He was dressed similar to what I was now wearing. No matter what I asked, he simply smiled. He assured me that my crew was safe. He then took me to a mining cart and told me to sit. While this cart was speeding through the cave’s rail system, I was surrounded by the sounds of gunfire and screams. Upon reaching our apparent destination, the man handed me a lightsaber with a golden hilt and a golden blade. He then pointed me in a direction and ordered me to fight. I do not remember much of the following events. All I remember were the screams and the looks on the people’s faces when I struck them down. The events of the battle blended together into one horrifying memory. I survived, so I guess my side won. In the stillness of the battle’s end, I gave in to my own exhaustion, and collapsed on the ground.I guess that this is what Post-Traumatic Stress is really like. It was here that I woke up in the morning. Safely back in my bed, I was left to ponder the events of the dream. With no apparent explanation, I simply went to my computer to document everything.
Wow, a golden lightsaber? Very nice, and I too have had a dream on a mining cart/mini train, very odd way to ride about if you ask me lol, however, I was on a mini-train with Obama... So yes, dreams are indeed odd! On the train, we went to watch a soccer game at some scary house, and we left from a brand new factory like store that sold dog toys. I love the overwhelmingly strange combinations that can form in our heads some times... I just wish I knew where some of it came from some days....
This was after watching inception:
The dream started where I was in this absolutely enormous building..like an airport terminal but there were no airplanes anywhere. There was huge lines of people registering to get into this building and everyone seemed all excited to be there except me. To me everything felt like deja vu and I had been in this building for hundreds of years. Instead of following the crowd in their various activities like shopping and eating in this building, I started looking and observing deeper. I came to this one area that seemed like large warehouse-like storage room. There were some people talking in stressed and angry tones which was never heard in this building so I stayed there and hid and tried to listen. I couldn't hear much but someone was upset and talking about escaping but they weren't getting their way or something, and they left. I looked around and there was one of the security guards. I felt like I'd known him forever, even though as far as I knew this was the first time I had ever seen him. As I approached him he ran over to me and explained some things quickly. He told me I had tried to escape so many times that I was now "caught in a loop." When people try to escape, their consciences are found and restarted at the beginning entrance of the building, but since I had tried so many times my conscience was put into a loop where I would just automatically restart every day or so. The only way to break the loop was to find some book in an office upstairs. Apparently the other unfriendly guards wouldn't care what I did in the building, because I would just be restarted and my memory erased.. So I ran up higher than I had ever been in this immense building and came to this huge corridor full of rooms. None of the rooms had any inscriptions on the doors and I was walking forever. I came to the end of the hallway, and there was one door lit by its own light and I got the sense to walk in, so I did. Inside there was this woman sitting at a desk. She said she was expecting me to make it in there sooner or later and told me to sit down. She said there was no book to read, but helped me break my mind's loop (don't remember exactly how..). She then told me that everyone was trapped in here whether they knew it or not. She taught me that because this was really just an element of mine, and everyones, sub-conscious, I could train myself to do anything imaginable and I would need to do so in order to free myself and the others. This would take breaking through multiple layers of consciousness. After she was done explaining things she started me back at the beginning of the building again. This time instead of continuing inside, I snuck back through the crowd and managed to make my way outside. I tried to sneak around the side of the building, but this big black guard (kinda resembling a character from GEARS of war) spotted me and started chasing me down. I quickly decided that I definitely hadn't mastered the subconscious yet, so I turned and ran towards the tall fence at the border of this building's property. And I ran FAST..like..super fast, and vaulted up and over the fence so fast I even surprised myself. I found that I was able to jump..almost fly..long distances so long as I could keep my mind focused. I ran into the country-side and to my surprise came to a group of others who had escaped. When I arrived their apparent leader was like "good, he's here, time to begin." And that was the end of it.
That's by far the best vivid dream I've ever had, and definitely one I was disappointed to wake up from. It kinda seems like a mixture of inception and the matrix.. What it means or what any of them mean..I have no clue.
