Hey all,

Our local radio station got a chance to speak to developer Brianna Wu who was attacked by Gamergaters, she speaks out against those who wish to do her harm..

AND finds something to agree with in the Gamer Gate movement. Specifically the close relationships between major websites and the people who make games. 'COUGH' IGN.

New gamer friend, there is, literally, no proof that the person who harassed her on twitter is in anyway associated with gamer gate. It sucks that she got threats and no one should do that, ever.

The internet has trolls aplenty and some are actively using this consumer revolt as cover for their shenanigans.

Interesting that Radaway signed up just to tell us about this and nothing else, isn't it?

kinda yeah. :rolleyes:

Who knows....

Her interview on the David Pakman show was a crazy.

As a woman in tech, I very strongly disagree with her "it's hostile to women" shtick.

As someone who is watching this whole shebang unravel from the outside, it really does seem like (and please correct me if I am mistaken);

1 Zoe Quinn isnt a nice person 2 She got caught out being so 3 As a defence strategy she mistakenly thought "women in the workplace are discriminated against. Im being oppressed here. It MUST be because I am a woman!" 4 Completely missing the point that she was being singled out for attention not for her gender but for her actions. 5 Que the list of quasi feminists who are more than willing to take up the fight whether it involves them or not. Of which Wu seems to me to be (a) one of the most outspoken and (b) the eadiest to spell. 6 Profit ( in the form of media attention).

I mean, you cant throw shit at a crowd of people (gamers) and not expect any return fire. Especially in a forum such as the net where by and large people are awarded anonymity.

Not trying to insult anyone, just trying to understand, is all.

The games industry must be a terrible place for women, or news sites that sincerely want to promote women in gaming wouldn't keep saying it was.

They'd realise that potentially driving more women away with their scaremongering was irresponsible and unethical, and would surely desist.

^ I completely agree. To me this looks like the demonising of the industry at large in order to secure additional column inches and attention for a select few. The resulting damage to the industry is not taken into account. Pretty short sighted, really.

What I dont get is how can GG be given single responsibility for all of these threats when it is an amorphous leaderless group. It would be as realistic to blame the bogeyman, no?

Not that Wu cares. Wu's been wasting hundreds of thousands of dollars on failed companies and this is all a convenient excuse for why Revolution 60's console port still isn't happening.

Wu's contacts are also much more heavily media oriented and based around extremists than anything else. It's a name that came up more than once when looking into things like Sci-Fi corruption or other such individuals elsewhere. Game development is less a cereer and more an expensive distraction.
