[FONT=Lucida Sans Unicode][SIZE=2] What do you think? Good? Bad? Ugly? I personally think it would be interesting to experiment with genetic engineering to see if we can improve our genetic structure so as to make us say stronger or healthier. Maybe jump higher? (white guys)
No way. Don't intefere with the natural evolution.
Maybe with crops and plants to produce more efficently, but not with animals.
I don't even think they should do it with crops, then those crops will then replace our normal natural crops and then we'll be surrounded be super-crops. Its a good idea to do it with crops, but there are too many risks.
As for people, thats wrong, we should stay as we evolved to be. This topic is like that movie Gattaca or something like that, weird movie but it made sense. Animals and people should remain as they are in their natural state. By messing around with the genome we are essentially playing 'god'.
This would turn into the quest for the 'super soldier' if it was possible, people would mess with genetics until the result is not human, but some machine. Why not try and build a Borg. . .
Genetic engineering has its good sides and possibilities, such as in medicine, but too many people would want to abuse such a thing

Why shouldn't we "play god"? Do you think that we shouldn't do it simply because god didn't make us that way?
To get rid of disease, sure.
To determine height, hair color, etc; absolutely not.
Why not hair color etc? May as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb....
GedWhy shouldn't we "play god"? Do you think that we shouldn't do it simply because god didn't make us that way?
First, I don't believe in 'God' nor do I believe in the 'creation' theory of Human existence, it was evolution. If we play 'god' then that wouldn't stop people from being the next Hitlers and creating super-soldiers and a complete race of superior humans. Anyone here seen Gattaca, its a movie, well in it all the genetically engineered humans get all the jobs and higher salaries, while normal natural humans are left to doing janitorial work and other jobs looked-down upon by the rest of society. I can see how genetic engineering can perfect immunity to diseases and other ailments, but then what would be the limit on these ailments, everyone would make their child have high IQs, large muscle-mass and other such things, making the world full of awfully similar people looking down on normal people. Then it makes you think, what's then the definition of normal?
But after a single generation there wouldn't be any normal people, (it is possible to write it in such a way that the modifications are hereditary) and we would have, stronger, faster, smarter, humans who may even be able to see things we cant, (like time travel FLT drives etc) and over one generation the divide would not have time to take such a segregated hold so there is realy no reason not to do it.
Note: Seen Gattaca and unless his parents were sterile the GM would have been i inherited by him, so its not very realistic.
