The reason we are not required to learn that many languages is because we do not live in such a tight knit system of countries like you guys in Europe do (not counting England). We have our English and French speaking neighbors to the north, and our spanish speaking friends to the south. You guys got neighbors all over the place.

Only do one language in England too. Well, two languages counting English. You COULD do more if you wanted, but most didn't. At my school anyway, I can't speak for them all.

Even though I speak it, I find English very easy to understand. I guess that is only because I speak it though. I would love to be bilingual though. Most Americans can only speak english.

I had to learn (besides dutch): english, french and german. French -censored- monkey balls, english is easy ang german is pretty easy to learn aswell. I also took spanish for a year but i didn't understood shit of that language. So I would go for german, its more fun to learn and easier in my (biased) opinion. Deutsch(land) ├╝ber alles! Oopsie shouldn't say that...

Well i had basic german for 3 years and german-1 (listening & speaking) for 2 years. But you would need about 3 years to learn the neccary stuff+ advanced stuff.

I think that you can learn the basic things in the first year.
