It really depends on the man. Some men take the macho approach, and they are either truthful or fake in that way. Others are of questionable heterosexuality, metros, as they are called. Considering you were born after 1990, perhaps that is to be expected?
If you are trying to work out how guys think then you may as well give up. The closest you'll ever get to knowing how a guy think is to spend a lot of time with him, and even then you will only understand how that guy feels.
You seem to be generalising, which is understandable but every guy is so different. I know guys who are completely insensitive towards women and show them no respect whatsoever. But i also know guys that are as you described.
