WiseBoboObedience is something taught, not instinctive.

Again, society/upbringing teaches us almost everything we know in later life, both good and bad. It trains us to be civilised, but it can also corrupt. And the lessons we learn are only triggers for concepts we already possess. Obedience comes down to the basic instinct of resisting discomfort - by being punished for wrongdoings, we work out how to behave to avoid such punishment. This is learned in early life and is the basis for much of our behaviour as adults, but not necessarily the entire story.

Children are born innocent, but we confuse "innocent" with "pure." They are not the same. If one takes the position that Society is to blame for teaching humans to behave in evil ways, you must consider that humans created Society. It is within and among humans that Society exists. Some human had to have initially introduced ideas that would cause some to "be bad." Anything that can be blamed on Society can be blamed on those that created it, and on those who continue its existence. Each individual is responsible for the evils in the world, and it is only through each individual that things can be changed - for better , or for worse. We are responsible for our reality.

I don't think every human is born good, nor do I think every human is born bad. I think the way a person is raised and what kind of environment they are raised in has a lot to do with how they will turn out. People and their societies will surely corrupt some of the good people, whether it be greed or anger or whatever, many of the contributing factors to those "bad" emotions are the person's surroundings. I can't see how all humans could have been bad and trained to be civilized because the civilized behavior had to start somewhere.

I think people are born bad. Some stay that way, but others generally want to change that. Considering seeing the savagery on the Melee forum, how much more bad do you need? Sheesh.

If everything that went on in the melee was 100% serious, I'd despair at humanity. Even generally civil posters go in there to vent their frustration... maybe it's only me who finds it funny, I dunno...:)

^Yep. I find it hilarious. Not a good place to be polite and discuss anything with seriousness or sincerity. Redington, that's why there's a warning for it--it's supposed to be savage in there, but that doesn't make everyone who posts in there savage.
