i just went deer hunting for the first time this year up at my csbin. i saw a couple of deer, but didnt have a clear shot. It is heavily wooded where I was hunting. I was using a .30 30 bolt action rifle. It was still pretty fun. Im going out next year too and hope to get my first deer.

Ensign RilesI think a much more fair way of hunting is using weapons that you can only build by hand. If you can build a bow with arrows without the use of tools, you can use it, if all you can create is a spear, use it. That is the ultimate challange. Shooting from hundreds of feet away really requires no more skill then being able to sit and be patient for extended periods of time in my opinion.

I totally agree with you, a few months ago I went camping with a friend, since that was our first time doing something like that, we accidentally brought not enough food, so we had to improvize weapons, good thing that we did thought of the fact that we should go prepared, so before departing, we researched on how to build weapons with materials you can find in forest and mountains. I must say that firing a bow at a rabbit in a successful way is harder than one would think, ofcourse I had no experience in such weapon, but I am sure it would be difficult anyway since a rabbit is a small prey that moves quite fast. Anyway, hunting for fun or to obtain a "trophy" is wrong.

I hunt for moose. when i am lucky enough to get a licence. I love the meat. i make sure ever last ounce is eaten. fortunally i have a relative thats a butcher and he can turn them into thoes little white packages of meat for me! shove them in my deep freeze and i got food for the winter! its much more delightful (i find) when you kill it yourself. i dunno of that makes sence, maybe i am just being weird, but i love to hunt!

i think hunting is fine when your using a crossbow or bow and arrow and you eat the meat. but those hunters who have like 12x scopes on a rifle and have a ton of camo is just sad. also bird hunting with a shotgun and birdshot takes no skill. all you do is sit in a trench and blast away. oh ya and what is up with hunter hunting with semi-auto rifles and sometimes fully auto. you cant eat a animal full of lead.

As far as I'm concerned there are two 'proper' ways to hunt. 1. Take a simple weapon, a crossbow, a bow or a basic rifle of some kind, and use your wits and skill to catch your prey. Once caught, eat it. I personally would rather just use the fridge, but whatever. Those of you suggesting naked hunting with no weapons to make it 'fair' fail to grasp why humans evolved the way we did in the first place -- our brains, and our opposable thumbs. We didn't survive because of our brawn, you know. Without our tools we wouldn't be much of a match for most animals in the wild save for the smallest of the small. Just as deer are fast, bears are powerful and armed with claws, and crocodiles can easily break necks, we humans can build and use powerful weapons. 2. Take a main battle tank, a small squad of elite commandos and enough explosives to level a small city, and perhaps have a thermonuclear warhead on standby. Because that's just frickin' awesome. Hunting 'for sport' or to gather together a collection of skulls just isn't cricket, my good chap. I'm not so sure you'd be in favour of such unnecessary slaughter if a race of hyper-advanced superbeings suddenly came along and decided that humans would be good for a bit of target practice.

I was one of those people, and you are right, but a rifle is just overkill in my opinion.

That is what i keep saying, but humans are special youknow? Unless you are a fuzzy and kyoot animal its okay to be slaughtered for "fun".

Hunting is necessary to keep animal populations intact. so its fine by me. on the other hand hunting down elephants and rhino's is illegal and im obviously not down with that.

I myself im a fishing person, I handle fish with respect and care, although I like taking home a few a year, specially when they r hurt pretty bad.
