Ok, so if not "space marines" then what? stealth suits that render a soldier invisible? that is also capable of covering heat and electrical impulses?

No soldiers at all, most likely. It seems almost stupidly impractical having troops, since they can get completely smashed from orbit. The only place that would be viable would be in a jungle environment where the dense foliage and sheer density of animal life would make EM radiation tracking impractical. Otherwise, remote-controlled drones, probably.

Even though I would hate to go back to actual concept of a space marine as an example but are they not trained to cover their tracks? and If they are caught, they still have armor to protect them. A stealth suit sounds like the better idea, but if they get caught, bye bye.

I'm interested to hear your explanation of how camouflage can obscure against a satellite. I may be even more interested to hear how armor of any kind would protect from a shot by an anti-material rifle, carpet bombing, napalm, or just getting shot from orbit.

crisissuit3, I hope you realize that you now have ditched your plans about peace and defending the good people and are talking about something purely offensive?

They would be a neat weapon for a brutal dictatorship willing to keep their people in fear by any means necessary, but don't expect people to not to try to kill you for creating them...

As for bombing and high powered rifles. Just another advance in war. But, I think orbital bombarment might take awhile to make and unless you build several hundred of them, then it might take awhile for them to reach their intende target. If defending people means that I have to kill the people who want to cause harm to them. THats all i stated.

A tank. You mean one of those big, lumbering sitting ducks that could just be destroyed with a railgun?

Several hundred of...what, exactly? And "it might take a while"? What might take a while?

crisissuit3;5024542As for bombing and high powered rifles. Just another advance in war.
A good old artillery concentration works just as well and is much cheaper. Since that might be considered slightly destructive in an urban environment I'll just ask for a specific armor solution against a rifle from 1939:

Give a few random guys an antiquated rifle and your space marine squad no longer has the edge. Seems like a waste of millions to me.
If defending people means that I have to kill the people who want to cause harm to them. THats all i stated.

So you want pre-emptive attacks on certain people, people such as the jews back in the days? Nice plan...

The tank can potentially survive, if the fire gets under the tank, ie. at the engine, no it wouldn't.

Not to mention the fire itself would kill anyone inside, the heat on the exterior would be that great it would effectively turn the interior into an oven.

Anyway, back on point, The best reasoning I've seen for this so far has to be Junk Angel with:

Firstly, humans do not work this way. The reason they show love to a german shepard is, because from a human standpoint, the dog is clearly under them. It's in some ways eternal child, parent complex. The shepard also acknowledges the situation, because he's wired to do so. You're bigger, stronger, smarter, the provider etc.

This space marine isn't a dog though. They are stronger, smarter(or as smart), trained for violence time and time proven to be better in combat etc.

Basically, in the hierarchy, the Human is bigger, stronger and more intelligent than the dog, both parties accept this as a natural relationship, the Human looks out for the dog because it can.

Now if you take this relationship and put it in reverse, you still have the Human at the top, but it's in reverse, the Super Human is Bigger, stronger and probably smarter than the Human, yet, the humans in control.

The issue here is, if these things aren't controlled (as Junk Angel pointed out, in Warhammer they're controlled by Religious Indoctrination, they serve the god emperor who they see as there saviour and guardian (again relating to the biggest and strongest being leader.)) now, your idea is to let these things be free thinking sentient beings.

Now this causes problems, what happens when these Super Humans realise that they're the top of the food chain? Natural instinct takes over, they know they're better, they know if they say 'no' there's nothing we can do to stop them.

Although something you later said may be a key answer to this, if you were going to do this, an elite task corps would be the solution, they may, on a one to one basis be bigger and stronger, but in numbers, if you keep it down to a small strike team (I believe your suggestion was 5.) then you add numbers into it, they may be bigger and stronger, but we outnumber them several Billion to 5, putting us back on top.

That, I can agree with, although it's more than likely other countries would develop this, and it could cause more issues than it's worth (potential assassinations etc).

Your original idea of an elite army to end war, well, was a bit over the top, and a bit far fetched, but from what I gathered from that post, it sounds more feasible, an elite task force to aim straight for the head thus either eliminating the enemy, or at least leaving it without direction and potentially crumble from the inside as well as the outside.

Ah yes now were are starting to see eye to eye. I may have mistaken everyone when i said army but just as junk angel said. They are meant to be a type of special forces. And yes, if we can keep their numbers relatively small and in check, The worst case scenario is that a small town is destroyed. But thats better then France. Isn't compromise a wonderful thing?

Many DARPA projects are just theories and research and one of those was looking at future possibilities for genetic enhancements. Combine that with their work on powered exoskeletons and so forth and one might think they have been playing too much Dawn of War or Halo.
