Recently I have noticed myself taking more "Hippie" like views. Like i'm against violence, the war in Iraq, etc. Sometimes even video games that aren't that violent compared to what I used to play make me feel bad (Call of Duty, etc). And I don't really stand up for myself. I used to be a real hardcore guy but now i'm just...

...like a hippie. It is kinda werid.

Lol, noice.

There is a difference between being a hippy and being a good person with good values. One is lazy and sits on their ass all day smoking drugs and having orgies(which doesn't sound half bad now that I think about it) the other happens to have good values along side of things like pacifism. If you are a pacifist and don't work because you don't feel like it, you are a hippie. If you are a pacifist who also works hard to make their and their families lives better, you aren't a hippy. Chances are you fall into the latter category.

Well, it depends on your definition on "contribution to society". I'm a musician/composer, student, and currently unemployed. I work, however, 40 hours a week during the summer. Am I considered a "hippy"?

You said yourself you work, and you are a student which is in itself a job. A hippy is someone who says to themselves "I'm not going to do anything because I don't feel like it." Plus it has to be a lifestyle. Sitting around doing nothing for a week or two is not being a hippy.

I'd say the definition of hippy is far from clear. It's connected with environmentalist and pacifist views, aversion to consumerism and such, but these things don't necessarily make you a hippie.

Also, being a hippie is not necessarily connected to being lazy or jobless. There were plenty of hardworking hippies.

You can be a pacifist without being a hippie, so I don't see a problem here. Using something other than violence to solve problems is usually a sign of intelligence and not a sign of weakness.
