Are there ever times when crime should be forgiven? For example, does a starving man deserve to go to jail for stealing bread? Discuss I think in some situations certain unlawful acts are ok

Certain crimes are justifiable, of course. Why? Because people are human. What does that have to do with it, you might ask? The law. People make the law -- people are not perfect -- therefor the law is not perfect.

To use your example, no man should be punished for trying to satisfy one of his basic physical needs. That would be like fining someone for peeing in a bush in the name of "public indecency" when there is not a public rest room for 100 miles.

I agree with Inyri Forge here. The issue is somewhat two-edged sword, but minor crimes with clearly good intentions shouldn't be punished by the highest degree.

If society can't do enough to keep its members content with their lives, there will always be crime. Do I find major looting like what happened in New Orleans disgusting? Yes, but not necessarily the act itself as much as why many of them were doing it. I think it's quite safe to say that if you live a comfortable and life, you really are going to have no reason to commit a crime, at least not as much as someone who has nothing to lose. Of course there are exceptions, but look at who is on our prisons, mainly people from the lower levels of society.

Yes. In religious terms, breaking the law is actually the right thing to do, like if the government passes a law that hinders your ability to worship or whatever. There are other cases of course, especially in desperate times and places, like the third world. For example is it acceptable to steal an expensive drug to save your son's life?

What if that drug was to save someone else?
