it's official.

this is the first british civilian to be beheaded in Iraq. what will the effects on the british attitude to the war be? are we so used to this now that it won't even be that much of an issue?

Do you remember any beheadings before you attacked Iraq? This is the price for oil...

Ah damn, not another one. Nothing else in the world makes you feel so, tired, as this sort of thing.

'Do you remember any beheadings before you attacked Iraq?' As for beheadings, no; but I do seem to remember the mass graves out in the Iraq desert with hundreds of people in them who had been executed; then there was that person who’s hand was surgically removed while they were still conscious. And the, do I really need to go on?

as sad, shocking and horrible as these beheadings are, i think they have lost most of their impact (media-wise). when the first beheading was published, the world was enraged. now i'm afraid it's 'just' another gruesome casualty. though, i would imagine the effect will be greater in england since it's their first beheading (and hopefully their last too). however, i don't think it will change the overall public opinion regarding the war. i would be surprised if it did. it was to be expected.
