'Fitna' is a short film made by the Dutch MP Geert Wilders last year - about 20 mins long. What it's basically about is a critique of Islam. It links the religion with violence, terrorism, abuse of women, medieval attitudes etc. etc. etc. (all highly controversial). When the film was released, the public debate went along the lines of "should a member of a national parliament voice opinions as in the film?", "should such views be censored?", "is it a true depiction of Islam?", "are people taking it too seriously?" etc. etc etc. It caused quite a stirr in Europe when it was released as it came right after the 'cartoon crisis' and the murder of a Dutch film maker who also made an 'anti-Islam' film.

Now, Geert Wilders was denied entry into Great Britain because he was deemed 'a threat to national security'; the reason being his film, and his person being a likely target of terrorism (thus causing threat to those around him).

(Moved to the Pub btw)

It’s an interesting film, and a controversial one at that. I believe the film’s message to be fairly accurate when contrasted against reality, instead of politically correct sentiments, shielding delicate sensibilities.

That's the first time i've heard of someone being deemed a "threat to national security" due to a film. I haven't heard of it until now. I likely didn't watch the news in the period it was released in.

I read somewhere that a Islamic religious figure threatened to have 10,000 Muslims protest unless Geert was banned.

Pat Condell posted a video about Fitna today. His video is well sourced.

This is nice. Was there any such protest for "Religulous", or was that OK because it was targeting all kinds of crazy?

The film makes a good point, religion is used to express a lot of hatred towards the West. It's not like you can't have peaceful people who are Muslims, or at least who believe themselves to be, but the religion is involved in a lot of violence. I don't think he goes over the top at all, people who want to deny that Islam is involved in this sort of thing :vikki: I'm not sure they even live on the same planet. At the end of the day I don't care if we make peace with them or kill them, but we've got to do one or the other sooner or later.
