I'm unsure. There certainly is no complex surface life, and has never been in the past either. The best we can hope for is simple bacterial life living in the permafrost just under the surface.

I think it may have been a civilized, human planet in the past(Before Earth). Maybe something just destroyed it and glassed it?

You're not seriously suggesting that, are you?

I think its only a matter of time before we find evidence that bacterial life once existed on Mars.

I think that it wont be until many many years maybe centuries from now when man actually starts building and digging on Mars that remains of creatures larger than microbes but smaller than mice will be found.

If there are any life forms on Mars they have probably gone deeper than 18 to 24 inches or more. On Earth IIRC the ground will freeze to hard as rock down to about 24 inches. So life forms wanting to stay warm will dig deeper than that and will probably want to be close to water. If I were looking I would look at the lower edge of the frozen poles.

Mars may have been dead so long that no telling how much stuff we would ahgve to dig through to find something.

But I doubt anything is alive now; we're more likely to see it on Titan or Europa. Mars is a lot like earth and could have had life on it but IMO it probably just never got started enough to get bigger than single celled organisms or proteins. Ah yes, the three symbols of the Republicans; an elephant, a woman desperately trying to act like she's one of the people, and a rich white guy threatened by change, along with the slogans half the politicians end their speeches with.

This isn't Halo, planets don't get "glassed".

If there ever was civilized life, it's gone now. Probably a massive extinction level event if there was.
