While I agree, that he's not a racist in the conventional terms, he does have some racist tendencies.

It's entirely possible he does this because he really did experience such problems with interracial marriages. But in this case I firmly believe that he has no right to deny them civil marriage (all can marry, safe for when the law forbids them), but he can offer them counseling, stating that they ought to consider. But he should act as a private and not a public person when doing this.

Total bullshit. 3 words for anyone who says different. Same Sex couples.

While I agree with you, that marriage is a union of two people who fulfill legal requirements of age, no-existing marriage and full legal status - some people might argue that marriage is in fact lexicologically defined as a union between people who not only fulfill the three previously mentioned requirements, but who also are of different genders. Thus said paragraph is not applicable to same sex couples.

"I'm not a racist. I just don't believe in mixing the races that way," , kinda contradiciting. He doesn't sound like a hardcore racist but he sure has some racist tendicies. He might have had some "bad experiences" himself that may have reinforced or giving him the idea that racial marriages can be difficult (or should we say culturial diverse marriages?). And perhaps to an extend there is some truth in it, if both people and all of their friends and family generally have the same views and ideas it might be easier for them to get along then when the families are from very different backgrounds. But this could be applied to many cases like a poor and a rich family, a family from nation X and nation Y, a heavily religious family on one end and an etheist/different religion on the other.

But even then, there is only a possible increase in potential difficulties. It would still depend on each individual how tolerant and respecting they are towards people different from them. And even if the families would be totally different from eachother on the base of many a possible background, it's not up to the official to denie a couple to marry.

NiteStryker;5041768 Was it a white guy / black girl or black guy white girl?.

The article says the woman is white and the man is black.

I wonder what the opion of this official would be with other races? White-Asian, Black-Asian, White-Indian, Black-Indian, Asian-Indian. And than we still have south americans and middle easterns... and we haven't even started about religions and such... I guess he'd denie all of those a marriage.

Just another bigot looking to exploit the laws to enforce his prejudices however he can. Guess we’ll get to see whether this thing swings back the other way or dies entirely in a few generations.

so he's worried the kids are going to have a hard time? if anything they're going to have a great time because they are not part of one group or another but is part of all those groups. Hitler should have tried to make these kinds of people.

I can only imagine this guy's solution to racial issues a few generations back: "Well the blacks will have difficult lives, it's better if they don't have kids."

Some people will be discriminated against because they're half casts, some of them won't; some people will be born to rich parents, some of them won't; some people will be beaten by their parents, some of them won't. Even if you could tell what sort of life someone would have by the color of their skin the situation will only change if those people are allowed to exist in society.

So? That's something for the families to sort out for themselves. If your parents are bigots and you’re not maybe it's time to ditch your socialising with them; or at least point out it's none of their business.
