... And that's not even the worst news. There's now genuine concern that the Alpine Fault could begin to unzip. When a fault unzips, it unleashes all the pressure that has been building over the decades and centuries. The older the fault is, the more pressure will have built up, and the worse the resulting quake will be.
When the Alpine Fault finally does rupture, it'll displace a lot of stuff. It won't create a new island, but it will certainly destroy a whole lot of infrastructure along its path.
I'm spending a year dead for tax reasons.
