Personally in my country we are worrying about the government legalising it for casual use not worrying about its medicinal uses being banned. My understanding is its helpful for some problems and not as useful as other drugs for other problems. So let it be used on those problems and not on the others. Also the people trying to get it banned are just going over the top. Get over it. People using when they are sick doesn't hurt you. So why try to stop it.

if it was legal then safe production of the drug could be inforced and rules and regulations to protect the user. anyway why should they ban a natural substance they shouldn't. its there for a reason.

Nevermind THC based drugs. The tradition brick of weed should be legal anyway. If I want to get stoned, for whatever reason, it's my prerogative.

I've heard some people say that eating cannibas in some form produces a high

Try the Cambodian "tourist special" happy pizza if you ever get the chance :D

There's nothing wrong in allowing them to take it to alleviate suffering, this is like forcing people to live when they'd be better off dead. It's unnecessarily cruel and it is cruel, it's not logical, it's not hurting the rest of society to allow these people to alleviate their pain with it. This will probably never be turned into a drug thanks to the hypocritical semi-socialistic laws governing drug research. Once a company has created a new drug they have to give up the rights to that drug to other drug companies that want to make the drug, great idea no? What it translates to however is that there's next to nothing, infact sometimes there is nothing, to be gained in the research of new drugs. These things take years and years to research and cost thousands to millions of pounds in the process which has to be made up before the other companies, companies which haven't spent all that money researching the thing in the first place, come out with their versions. It creates a situation in which research is practically punished by the government. So I doubt you're going to get any great new drug based off of this for a while, research needs to be done is all very well, but research is not cost effective.

Oh, I agree that it should be (a) legal for medicinal purposes and (b) legal for adults who want to use it in the privacy of their own homes (I don't think everyone should have access to it--kids, people with mental disorders, et cetera--it needs to be restricted and shouldn't be smoked in public). Regarding the topic of this thread, I believe some (serious) research needs to be done, as well, so people can stop parroting the dogma from the 1950s and 60s, which has been the basis of the War on Drugs nonsense (calling it addictive, a narcotic, a hallucinagen, et cetera) which has only developed ignorance and fear regarding marijuana. Also, it's full potential as a medicine needs to be properly explored, IMO.

There are social aspects that go along with marijuana which is why it was banned. But I disagree with banning a majority of the drugs out there. Especially marijuana. Marijuana is less dangerous than alcohol. Are we going to ban alcohol too? Well, we tried that already and it didn't work. The United States sure preaches to the world that we are 'the land of the free', yet it takes an authoritarian stance on many issues.

i can just imagine the cops arresting old ladies for smoking weed.

The medicine producers felt threatened because people can make this stuff for free instead of buying their overpriced stuff.

So one complaint to their friend bush and BAM! medical weed is banned.

The problem is that the ones that actually need it are going to have to suffer due to the amount of people that steal medical marijuana in order to have it for leisure. While i am against people doing marijuana for "recreation" i can say that this new law is ridiculous because not only does it only eliminate few people who actually are going to smoke marijuana, but also because doctors can still give dangerous drugs out to patients, such as morphene. Yet again, the good responsible people have to suffer for the few dumbasses who screw it up.

drug companies dont want weed to be legal because people growing their pain killers will cut into their profits, government will do what ever the powerful lobbies tells them . let the people grow. i believe anyone should be able to use weed.
