If you have something to say, say it. That's how you meet new people.

Nem, you place too large of an emphasis on alcohol usage. Going out drinking with people gets you drinking buddies, not friends. I realize there is a big difference in alcohol policy between the US and Europe, but you make it sound like that if you don't drink no one will like you.

Done and done. I'm betting Rock Band may come in handy too smilie.gif All great responses, thanks people.

Your whole dorm will love you. Out of 700 people in my dorm, I think only 2 or 3 have the whole Rock Band kit. The dorms are only 150 square feet(20 square meters)

I know my floor is into Ultimate Frisbee(I can't play due to a fractured radial head). Every few days a group of 15 or so go out to play. If you can get some people on your floor to play some kind of sport you will make friends.

:Puzzled: I only really mentioned alcohol use twice.

Yes it is.

And Pethegreat, I met most of my better friends in pubs and bars. Most of my girlfriends too. They're like social hubs around here, and a person without a local is a very unfortunate individual indeed. You don't necessarily have to drink alcohol while you're there either - most of them serve cola, coffee, fruit juice, and even *shudder* water. Granted, you'll get strange looks for partaking in such alternatives, but...

If you're starting from scratch there's no better place to go. It helps that alcohol serves as a social lubricant as well; even the shiest of people can untie their tongue after a couple of pints.

Legally it's five provided it's all done within the confines of your own home. But since you can’t buy alcohol at that age and your parents are unlikely to give you any practically speaking it’s eighteen.

I thought it was 16 with a meal? Or am I thinking of Germany maybe?

I used a move a lot, so, as a kid, I used to move schools every year or so. Once you get used to meeting new people, you realise that, wtf, screw them. And once you realise that, and you stop caring, you make friends without trying to. And that's the best part, because the friends you make without trying to turn out to be real ones.

well, i understand completely what you mean. I went this friday to the university to become a headnurse in plastical chirguon (or how you write it). 200 people= 190 females + 10 guys, with me included. So, i went to the cafetaria and i gave a look at everyone. Some chicks were already watching everyone who came in like me. And i look at the weak spots, like guys sitting alone or also watching at everyone who are sitting there. And i found a guy who was sitting alone, my age, and i came to him and asked if he was studying the same as me. And he said he did. I asked him, if i was able to sit next to him and he said with a great smile, "please!" Before i knew, i was talking to him, and you feel already a lot stronger. He wasn't in my class apparently but still i did the same with the chicks in my class. Made a small joke, etc and before i knew, they were asking from where i came. Quite easy actually, everyone is terrified, they are just waiting when someone is making the first step.
