Lets say that you have been taken hostage as a tourist in iraq or some other countr where simualr things happen. The terrorists have treatend to kill you but they are willing to exchange you (and thus let you live) for an other person. Situation A): They wish to trade you for a totally random person. B) They wish to trade you for a a member of your family. C) They wish to trade you for a iraq civilian D) They wish to trade you for a captured "terrorists"/ insurgent in american hands. E) They wish to trade you for a allied (american, briths or any other member of the coalition of the willing) soldier. Now what would you do in each situation? Would you agree or sacrifice yourself? To keep things simple we asume that the terrorists keep true to their words and don't kill you after all IF you agree on one the exchange.

Tourist in iraq? heh.

I'm sure if I was taken hostage, russia would remove troops from iraq? heh. anyway.

A: I would refuse, and risk being killed

B: I would refuse and risk being killed

C: I would refuse and rick being killed

D: I would agree

E: Depends if they already have a soldier captured or not, or they will capture one. If they already have one, I would agree, but if not, I might not agree.

I don't know how I would act in such a situation. If there is no other way out (like paying them a lot of money) and those people agreed to the exchange I'd also agree as long as it isn't a family member.

Same answer as Mihail. A lot of people would argue, "but then that insurgent you freed is going to go kill 10 more people!" In wars, one must protect one's people. Therefore, letting an American get killed so that you can keep an insurgent as prisoner would go against that rule. Anyone who disagrees cares more about killing or capturing insurgents more than saving Americans, and probably supports the Iraq War out of hate for Arabs/Muslims.

no matter who the other part of the trade was, i'd do it and be safe. selfish, i know, but i still have things to do before i die.

First, I wouldn't go to Iraq. Why not just go on holiday to Venus for the weekend?

Second, the terrorists would likely kill you whichever option you chose, so I'd hopefully make life as difficult for them as I possibly could before they knocked me off, if not escape.

More people chose the "selfish" way out then expected. I myself would probably do the exact same as mihail though. Although i might also agre on letting me go in exchangeo some tottally random person or a civilian. It's hard to make a decision. I I still have enough things to do here, with a bit of luck they take a eldery man in my place... it might very well be that i would chose the easy way out in all situations, but my heart tells me that what mihail says is the right thing to do. So hard...

@mr. matt: i know that terrorists can't be trusten but if we take for granted that they kill you anyway their is no dilemma to argue about :p . Oh and some people already go to iraq (or other dangrous countries): they sdon't belong to a aid or press oranisation , nor to the militairy or any compagny that is (plannin to be) active there, thus they are tourists/vistors. Don't ask me what they ae doing there though.. probably boared the wrong plane -darn there goes my 2 week cuis through the caribean :( -
