Apparently in the United States, electoral rolls aren't as sacred as you'd expect.

Ahead of the midterms elections, hundreds of thousands of previously registered voters are being purged from the electoral rolls - some within days of the registration deadline. This means that if these individuals try to vote, their vote will be considered invalid. Essentially robbing them of their voting rights.

Usually, this is done because individuals have moved out of the state or district, thus rendering them unable to vote in that area. But in some cases, just moving across the street can result in your registration being purged.

In Georgia, aside from massive purges, there are 53000 applications "on hold" because of the system implemented by the Republican candidate, Brian Kemp. Of the 53000 individuals, a staggering 70% are black, hinting at bias from the system itself.

Now the big question is... Why the fuck is this allowed in a supposedly-democratic nation? You should have the right to vote from the moment you acquire your citizenship, to the moment you lose it. No ifs or buts.

...supposedly-democratic nation?

Wait, this is supposed to be a democratic nation?  It's the first I'm hearing of it.

It is not a democratic nation anymore. Ever since a Capitalist became President, America has only been all about the top 1%, and everyone else is left to die, while the 1% blame THEM for being left to die. If you cannot afford to pay for something, you don't deserve to have it.

But anyway, if anyone is being purged, I suggest EVERYONE check to make sure they are still registered.

Seems I'm still registered.  Honestly, Brian Kemp is so much of a caricature of the Republican party I'm surprised he wasn't a character invented by SNL.  It's horribly incredulous that so many people take him seriously.  He's barely a worthy candidate for assistant manager at Dick's Sporting Goods let alone an elected official.

As to the issue of voter suppression, there's an op-ed by an Emory University professor in the New York Times that addresses it:

Brian Kemp, Enemy of Democracy

How would you go about checking if you are still registered?
