We were watching this unfold on the news last night on Discord, scary stuff.

7 dead, 40+ injured, 3 terrorists were shot by police who were wearing fake suicide vests, drove a van down London Bridge and ran over many pedestrians before leaving the fan and stabbing random victims.

Really scary stuff, third attack in as many months and very soon after the Manchester bombing.

Looks like May is using the chance to push for a little more police state.

Is it just me, or is this sort of thing a whole lot more frequent than it was a year or two ago?

3 attacks in 3 months, two in as many weeks, it's escalated really quickly.

It annoys me how they suspend campaigning but she's clearly pushed hard in her initial statement to use it as an excuse to push for "internet companies" to install backdoors into their encrypted platforms, a key part of her manifesto.

The response to this sort of bullshit is far more dangerous than the event itself. My sister lives in London, I wasn't at all worried for her. Just running the basic probabilities, there are eight million people in the greater London area 7,999,953/8,000,000 is pretty good as odds go.

It's horrible stuff, and I feel for the families and friends of the seven victims, and the countless injured. If there is a bright spot in all this, it's that the London Metropolitan Police have an incredible response time, and their crisis plans clearly work. I have never seen a section of a city get evacuated like that.

As for the frequency of these attacks; Anders Samuelsen, the Danish Foreign Minister, actually commented on that after the Westminster Attack. He said that with the concerted efforts and Daesh losing ground, it's not unexpected that they're getting more desperate.

Across Europe the number of attacks and attempted attacks has increased quite a bit over the last couple of years. I think the old rationale of considering these guys as a few nutcases in a relatively peaceful immigrant population doesn't really cut it anymore. The bad integration of Muslim migrants mixed with the succesful internet propaganda of groups like ISIS as well as foreign funding for fundamentalist Islam in Europe is systematically creating people who are not insane but simply follow an ideology that sees us as so evil.

Europe is pretty liberal and progressive as a whole, so we shy away from uncomfortable discussions, but Islam isn't just one big religion so regarding it as just one religion like any other is just as wrong as regarding it as root of ell evil like the populists do. There are many branches in Islam. The types of Islam that are, among others, tought to lower-class immigrants in Europe (salafism, wahhabism) have the potential of creating more people who are ready to use violence to "defend" their faith than other streams. Also, if you look at a global mean of all Islam branches it is probably safe to say that "moderate" has a different implication in Islam than in, say, Christianity as liberal or progressive branches in Islam are not nearly as popular.

The way I see it most major political factions don't want to touch the subject as they realize that it has historically grown and is difficult to fix now. This leaves the political stage free for populists and extremists. Which is sad, because there are probably rational solutions somewhere between right-wing extremism and conservative apathy. Unfortunately these solutions will be costly and long-term, so not exactly something you can campaign on. And in the short term they may have adverse effects. France, for example, has stressed in recent years its secular tradition; outlawing public displays of religion (headwear) and indicting people for hate speech. This probably contributed to the number of attacks they had to suffer.

Also, we have bigger problems and can't really afford to waste our limited capacity to care on those guys who are mentally stuck in the medieval ages. If our political system can't deal with the problem and our media can't focus on anything else the best solution is probably to stop migration from Muslim countries; there are many, many poor people in the rest of the world who don't come with that sort of baggage and who will be much easier to integrate. And to be realistic, this is pretty much the consensus among European governments except that recently they haven't found a way to enforce it quietly (we used to have dictators like Gaddafi doing the dirty work for us).

Ramadan spurs this shit. Since in the death cult religion, ramadan gets one double the chance to get to paradise.

Welcome to my teenage year Britain.
