CodeDrifterReligion by itself is not an evil by anymeans what so ever and is a definite good in my opinion however extremist fanatics of any religion can cause serious problems, be they condemning those who view differently than them to Hell and trying to stop equal rights due to their religious beliefs or bombing. However someone who has Religion but isn't a complete and utter fanatic is perfectly fine and is overall very good. I think that if we get rid of Religion it would cause a serious uproar and would never succeed, however I also think they're should be a definate seperation of Church and State.

It only takes one religious fanatic to control millions, example: the crusades. As long as religion is part of the thought process it interferes with reality. I don't care what you believe in, but every war has been caused by religion.

CodeDrifterVietnam - Caused by Capitalism vs. Communism Korea - See above

one of the main reasons why we went into Vietnam was because of Russia during the cold war. during that war, everything started becoming like a never ending game of chess. Russia would help comunism here America would help the other government there. So if you look at what was going on at the time you can see that all the wars that were going on were like a chess game.

America TAKE A STAND. Please stop handing positions of power to the people who don't care about you. This is OUR country, not the rich white mans. So why every election do we forget about all the wrong the major political parties do to the people and our great nation. We need start exercising more of the rights our four fathers laid down for us, the most important being the peoples right to IMPEACH. There is no reason to let a failing politician to hold thier position in office.

then why dont YOU run for an office thats one of the great things about this country is that you dont have to put up with that but there are few who do run for president or for the senate or for congress. Most people would rather bitch about how the government hates them and how people should do something about it. but instead of telling people what to do why dont you see what you can do. If you believe that the government should do more to help the individual person then think of something that can help write your senator, your congressman, your mayor, your govenor, the president even just do something besides bitch about it. The thing about America is that if you dont like the power hungry people in washington that you dont have to vote for them, and you can help get someone elected who you do agree with, and if they dont win they can always run again.

WW2 was religous in part - Hitlers hatred of the Jews. Im not sure about WW1. Im no expert on Korea or Vietnam, so Ill leave that to someone else. All of the European conflicts during the middle ages were religous.

I support what you say Cyber, but it cannot work at this day and age. The reason why is because one half of America is trying to keep Bush out of office, while the other half isn't. What is on Americans minds is getting Bush out, so why waste a vote on someone who will not win? Or on the Bush side, why waste votes on someone else when we could risk getting Kerry into office? The only way that this plan could possibly work is if no president at the time is running for reelection. Then maybe someday someone can get your ideas across a little better. Then again that still wouldn't work because a majority of third parties support major leftist ideas. So basically you would have all the democrat voting between various people, and all the republicans voting for the current republican running, guaranteeing our win.

Well that does not fully explain the causes for the Vietnam War, so I shall explain a bit.

First off, the roots of the Vietnam War are entangled as far back as its French colonialism. During WWII the Japanese invaded Vietnam and collaborated with the Vichy in charge to crack down on the population [mostly the communists] while the French held utter superiority in the government and law. Also during this time, America started backing the rebel leader [and later President of North Vietnam] Ho Chi Minh. When the Japanese were defeated, the French regained control over Indochina [Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia at the time]. The people no longer wanted French control anymore and rose up to fight. The Viet Minh, after a long and terrible war, forced the French into surrender at Dien Ben Phu, which ultimately led to Vietnamese independance.

After the war, Vietnam was split in two by the two superpowers forming South [Democratic] and North [Communist], Vietnams. Eisenhower, the American president at the time - who had also supported the French war in Vietnam - had helped hold South Vietnam 'democratic' through its non-elected government, held in power solely by the military. Eisenhower knew that if there was going to be elections, the Communists would win, so they had to keep the South democratic by force. The North Vietnamese, seeing the plight of their southern brothers, began supporting and arming the PLF [also know as the Viet Cong] to fight against the oppressive South Vietnamese government [mostly believe to be an American Puppet Government].

By the time JFK got into power, the situation in Vietnam was escalating, and he decided to send miliary advisors to aid the ARVN in its conflict with the NLF. Th next year, JFK was shot [in no way related to Vietnam, or is it *insert creepy cover-up music*]. LBJ who replaced JFK, began sending troops to Vietnam to begin fighting with the ARVN, and began large-scale bombing against NVA targets supporting the NLF. All in all, the next few years saw a lot of American casualties and needless conflict. Then Nixon comes along and promises to begin pulling troops out of Vietnam, even though they were beginning to have the upper-hand against the 'enemy'. Protests against the war polarized much of the nation against this pointless endeavour and eventually led to American forces to begin removing troops from Vietnam. In '73, the last US troops leave Vietnam, but toward the South and by '75, take Saigon, renaming it Ho Chi Minh City in honor of the late North Vietnamese President and guerilla leader.

The war cost America the lives of around 50,000 younf men, 300,000 wounded. Civilian casualties numbered nearly 4-5 million on both sides. In the end, the war cost nearly $150 billion [USD]. At the price of what? In short, it was a pointless war.

OctovonCorporations/Big Business have no place in elections, and still its in the form of massive donations to the Republican and Democrat parties in America. [/QUOTE]

Thats always how its been, and it wont ever stop...cept in the case of CA Govenor Arnold...he has stuck to his word when he said 'I dont need to bow to special interests...noone can buy me out, I have plenty of my own money, I dont need theirs'

OctovonPeople should always look to the alternatives, and shouldnt be confined to only two choices.

Well here in the US Those are the 2 parties...nobody else puts up canidates

[QUOTE=Octovon]I didnt want to include the Green Party on that, although they have 5% of the vote, they did not win a seat in this year's election. Then we have slew of other smaller parties, Marijuana Party, Marxist-Leninist Party, Communist Party, etc.

We have those (little parties) also but they dont have enough money to put up a canidate...let alone campeign for them. I can name the democratic canidate...I can remember Green party Ralph Nader...(lets face it, the Mancherian Canidate will even beat him)but thats it
