Im writting this cause i need to rant about somthing that is going on in my city. If you have some of the same problems then feel free to add and join my rant. Im am tired of all the kids in my city that think they run the place and can do whatever they want. Vandalize, smash bus stops, and break into houses and cars. I am a Teen myslelf and am ready for a curfew to stop it all. Our city has gone to hell. Our city is just outside the limits of Edmonton and would be considered a wealthy comunity. These kids need to be taught some respect and discipline and I balme it on the parrents of my city. parents that are letting little Suzy and Billy out at 3 and 4 in the morning should be ashamed of themself. What do they think they are doing at that time in the morning, Honestly do they even think about it. Do they honestly think that they are just sitting around at someone’s house being good little kids. No they are using their money that they gave them go Boot for Booz and drugs then go out on the town and find what ever they can to occupy themselves with. They need to start parenting their children. If anything the parents that allow their kids out this late should be charged and arrested for allowing them to do this. What have they been teaching these kids ? All I hear at my school every Friday is how much they need to drink this weekend. I hear things like “ Oh man I did not get to drink last weekend, so my weekend basically sucked so I got to get smashed this weekend. When did this become acceptable that you have to drink to have fun on a weekend. I don’t drink and I somehow still seem to have some fun. Are people that small minded that they cant think of anything fun to do unless they are drunk ? I’m not saying that this is what every kid is like but it is a large population in my city. I am sick of hearing these kids talk about how much they need to get drunk. Another thing that also can be added to this is the amount of drugs in my city. People may think that it is pretty clean, think again. If they spent enough time at some of these schools they would notice it. It is everywhere. I know so many people at my school that are dealing this stuff and I could get any kind of drug I wanted in no time. It is everywhere. Don’t think that your kid is not into this stuff. Be a parent and take some authority and actually ask some questions and check. If you think something is suspicious then do it, don’t feel dirty about it. This is advice coming from a kid to parents cause a lot of them don’t seem to be doing enough. I tired of seeing bus stops broken park benches smashed, cars broken into (my freinds was broken into last night) etc etc….. Parents are not doing there job of parenting. They seem to think that letting there kids running around out by themselves they will be able to teach them selves. Come on. These kids need some Discipline for once in there life. If you think back to many years ago things like this never happened. We never thought of the idea of a curfew. It is parents becoming more and more lazy. The parents excuse to this is that they are too busy to do things with them. Well make time for them. I just don’t get where kids get the ideas from. I was walking home one night and these little junior high kids were walking around breaking tree branches and flipping over benches and smoking pot. I have something to say to these kids. What did you get from that. What did you accomplish and succeed out of that other then making are city look like trash by destroying our nice trees and flipping over benches that were put there for you to sit on. They think they are tuff and a gangster, well then I would like to see them spend one night in down town Edmonton. Lets see how they make out with that attitude that they control everything. They should be happy that they live in the city they live in and show it some respect.

How old are they? It's not a big deal that 16 or 17 year olds are drinking during the weekend (actually, wait, what is your age of limit? Here in Manitoba, I know it's 18, but what is it in Alberta?) It really depends on age of limit, because that really chooses availability, but kids in high school party and drink underage. As for the vandalism, I was definitely part of a responsible group that didn't commit harmful crimes like that but drank. We never broke windshields, keyed cars, destroyed property (but come to think of it, there were the jocks that did). I just don't see why anyone could do something senseless like that. I think this problem 'that your city has actually gone rampant, and needs a curfew and is somehow different than mine', I think you've created the problem. I don't think we're in moral decay, just moral change. People think of it as a doomsday too much.

It is actually mostly the kids aged 14 and 18. Last weekend they had a story in the paper about how many 14 and 15 year olds the cops picked up piss drunk breking bus stops and smashing cars. Then there is the 17 to 18 range which is now hot wiring cars and taking them for joy rides all over the citys. I know that alot of kids drink just for fun and dont get piss drunk, but most of th kids at my high school all keep saying they have to get smashed out of ther mind. They come back the next weekend talking about all the stupid things they did and then go do it next weekend. Like this one girl was talking about how her and her frinds decided well they were walking around to break into a house and basically trash it. They were talking about how they put holes through the walls and fluded the basement by truning the hose on and putting it in the window.

mandatory conscription. Im not just talking military though if chosen it should be offered. i mean a 2 year period in which highschool graduates are enrolled in various government and civic projects. build roads clean up shiat and basically be model citizens. offers you decent pay (more than a fast food joint) some skills training, travel oppurtunities and hell, make admission to university a little bit easier.

I like to drink. By your standards, I suppose that makes me a bad person, no?

Of course I don't do smack or vandalize, however there ARE responsible people in the world who like to have a good time.

People have no morals today. They don't care who they sleep with, what they drink/smoke, how well they do in school, and what they do when they are drunk. It is not a change in ideas, it is kids doing worse and worse things just becuase they can.

What about people like me who have a job already and are not doing anything bad? I don't need to be sent off to be taught how to be a citizen for 2 years of my life. I also don't need to spend any more time with some of the people who need what you said.

All I hear at my school every Friday is how much they need to drink this weekend. Same here. I am fine with people having a beer or 2 on the weekends or a shot of vodka. I am not fine with people getting drunk and doing stupid things. The kids who I know party and drink on the weekend get into all sorts of trouble.

Parents need to do something about this. They need to realize their jobs are parents first and foremost. They need to do something about their kids behavior. If that means hitting them then so be it.

Teens in my town seem pretty lax, then again they arn't all over my area cause they're too busy fighting at the elementary school's skate park or selling dope or setting things on fire.
