GedDamn right I' am; I was in the cadets for three years and it was the best time I've had in my life, (sadly time constraints forced me to drop it:() If I was in a position of being on benefits or joining the army, I'd join the army, without a second thought, I expect everyone else to do the honorable thing by their country and do the same in such a situation.
I would rather join up in one of those volunteer programs, such as the ones where you help the disabled (please don't tell me you want them to be forced into military service/killed as well), or suchlike. honorable is one thing, but useful is another.
I don’t :uhm:
Heh, there's something I didn't expect to hear :p.
Nearly right, "I would never be in such a position because I wouldn’t break the law."Yes I found that to be rather an interesting post to read, (one of the better ones simply to see you on the attack instead of defence for a change.)
It's not against the law to suffer from the fact that it's hard to get a job in some areas. I hear you say 'move then', but when you don't have a job you can barely afford to stay, let alone move. Hell, you can barely afford to move when you DO have a job these days. It took me almost a year to get my current job after leaving college, for the simple reason that there weren't -- and still aren't, actually -- any other jobs available. It was dumb luck that my new boss happens to be as insane as I am, actually. Well, nearly. I paid my taxes (although I was only eligable to pay road tax; no income, no income tax y'see). I didn't do any harm to anyone. I didn't sign up for the dole even when my bank balance reached double digits. Would you have had me join the armed forces (and essentially prevent me from find a job anyway); be dragged off by force? That's what it would've taken. I don't appreciate being forced into things that are not necessary, certainly not beneficial. You'd have had to drag me away, and even when you got me there I'd have resisted you at every turn. And I suppose you'd have me executed for that.
The difference was I want to hurt people a little to help them, where as you wanted to kill people, lets face it they don’t get much benefit out of that. I wonder is there at least a part of you, that when you hear about someone being raped wouldn’t like to take the person who did it and beat the living shit out of them? No we didn't
If you have to resort to pain to teach people, you need a few lessons myself. I was 'spared the rod' as a child, and I'm not a violent, society-leaching scumbag with no ambition to improve myself or society. Huh. And no, I wouldn't -- you'd almost be on their level if you did that. I'm all in favour of making prisons a little less 'comfortable' and suchlike, but the line is drawn at simply 'beating people up' whenever I feel they deserve it. Because, one day, someone with their own set of moral codes might think I deserve it for, I don't know, breathing in the wrong way, and exact 'justice'.
ArseholeI actually plan on joining the military voluntarily.
Me too. I'm looking in to going to West Point. I haven't come close to deciding anything yet, but that is one of my options.
Good for you, Arsehole and colonel_bob. I applaud your decisions. colonel_bob, realize that if you can't get into West Point, there's always Army ROTC. I did Air Force ROTC and I got my butterbars just as if I had gone to Colorado Springs.
I didn't make it!
I want to join the airforce or the marines airforce, either way I want to fly. It is my dream, and my goal. Hopefully my destiny. After that I can go on to fly airplanes on popular airlines.
Which service you join depends on what airplane you want to fly. Also, the Air Force won't shave your head.
Screw that. In almost every other country people are required to enlist. It is a good idea, but moof has a point. A bunch of people would make it their priority to screw the military. Conscription always pisses American off. We just hate being told what to do. The only time conscription would be a good idea is a war when we desperately needed the additional bodies. On that poll I voted the "damned right" thing, but in retrospect I don't think it would be such a good idea. Most people just don't give a shit. I think that the military is the best place for a person to better him/herself, but I don't what to be forced into intrusting my life to some jackass who doesn't give a shit.
