I am smoking while writing this... That said, the law is the law as far as I am concerned. The owner of the Pub broke the law and should pay the consequences, or in this case a fine. I agree with Saquist, it is all about money. The question is, which is more important? The governments concerns over billions a year lost in healthcare costs and lawsuits or the pub owners concerns over thousands a year lost over "I need a cigarette so I'm gonna pass on that one last beer"? In my opinion, the government has every right to tell me where I can and cannot smoke, as long as that precludes my own private property.

That is an excellent point....I didn't even consider the impact of heath care. At the rates that health care is rising in this country soon common people won't be able to afford it for themselves. Currently there are tens of millions of family who are without heath care for their children even for an emergency. it sickens me to see rates for a family of 4 at $ 920 DOLLARS a month! Who could afford that realisiticly?

Personally I'm asthmatic and I couldn't play sports although I would have liked to but this brings up a lot of heath concerns...I would have loved to have been able to run like a football player for 60 minutes without dying of lack of air.

My best friend is an asthmatic and he is the fittest guy i know. But that is beside the point. To me, smoking is an abhorrent practice and should be banned not just in pubs, but in all public places.

I takes alot of work to expand an asthmatics lung capacity and it takes a lot of consistant work out and cardio. Breathing excercises are usualy the best methods...

Saquist;4017454Whose more important....the rights of the smoker or the non smoker?

Both rights are equal. I think a cigarette is connected to a pub, just like alcohol. So I think it's a bit silly to fine smokers in the pubs.

And no, I don't smoke myself.

Ultimately, to me, the rights of the non-smokers, because they are the majority (most of the time).

I don't know about the non smokers being the majority...it seems quite the opposite when you're in a bowling alley or similar location. I suppose it's true but it must be like 1 out of five people.

In places like Shanghai, it used to be well over 50%, and it still is hovering in the 40s. But mostly it is around 10-25%, I would think, therefore, non-smokers constitute quite a large majority.

I am loving the smoking ban! i can finally breath fresh air and remain smelling fresh in those small pubs. I also love that my smoking friends have begun to stop smoking (either all together or less), because they would usually just have one while drinking. Anything that makes my friends have a better quality of life (in my experience) cant be bad :smokin:

Rock Lee, what smoking is associated with is all bad. I don't think you can name all the different forms of cancer on one hand. I've really be listening to those anti-smoking adds and It surprises me that everyday a young man and woman....WITH FULL KNOWLEDGE of what they're doing (like myself) pick up the habit and carry over the addiction to yet another generation.

It's legal insanity.
