IAEA fears Iran working now on nuclear warhead | Reuters

Looks like fun times are a comin for us all.

In unusually blunt language, an International Atomic Energy Agency report for the first time suggested Iran was actively pursuing nuclear weapons capability, throwing independent weight behind similar Western suspicions.

The IAEA seemed to be cautiously going public with concerns arising from a classified agency analysis leaked in part last year which concluded that Iran has already honed explosives expertise relevant to a workable nuclear weapon.

The report also confirmed Iran had produced its first small batch of uranium enriched to a higher purity and had set aside the vast bulk of its low-enriched uranium stockpile for this purpose even though this seemed far in excess of possible civilian needs.

For several years, the IAEA has been investigating Western intelligence reports indicating Iran has coordinated efforts to process uranium, test explosives at high altitude and revamp a ballistic missile cone in a way suitable for a nuclear warhead.

Iran is in a nice position, they cannot lose regardless of what they do. Either noone intervenes and they get the bomb or someone blows their facilities up and they get to rally people with propaganda about an unjustified attack by the evil crusaders.

Anyway, if US or Israeli intelligence is feeding information to the IAEA things must be entering the next phase. Maybe they are trying to generate enough public attention to force other countries to agree to sanctions (at the moment it looks like China and Russia are not too cooperative about this) and/or to have an excuse for unilateral action.

2010. The correct answer is 2010. For all those who answered '2010' for the question :When will the UN become aware that Iran is making nukes?" please come up and claim your prize.

feels like 2003 all over again...

I find it hard to believe anyone was delusional enough to believe the Iran was not developing a nuclear weapon. Without even commenting on whether or not they have the right to do so or whether or not they should, it should have been plainly obvious they were developing a weapon.

Regional power, long standing feud with another nuclear regional power (Israel), plenty of oil supplies, theocratic dictatorship. Oh yeah, they aren't developing a bomb at all.
