Please be aware that insults in reputation comments are subject to the same rules as insults posted in a Pub thread. Reputation comments are not an anonymous way to post insults and people have been banned for ignoring this fact before.

In my opinion negative reputation doesn't serve any useful purpose, if anyting it is harmful to forums because people attach too much value to those silly numbers. If you disagree with someone you can tell him that in your post and offer a few reasons why you do so, So please don't give in to your more vengeful side and avoid using negative reputation unless you absolutely have to.

If you are insulted in reputation comments contact me, I will take care of it.

I'll leave this thread open for discussion.

Some people won't realize this Repuation is just one of many numbers on the internet, i think that repuation should be removed if anything.

I agree; it serves no purpose other than to show people that people agree with whatever he or she says.

Or boost people's ego's to make them believe they're better than everyone else, when they're not.

Not necessarily, I've given +rep for posts I didn't agree with just because I thought they were good in some other way.

My large number makes my e-penis bigger and it will go all floppy if it is removed.

:lookaround:

A lot of people give out neg rep for somewhat "stupid" reasons, but its there for a purpose. I give out neg rep to people who disobey the rules multiple times after being told, or just do something so incredibly stupid it just warrants it.

If it is abused though, just contact a supermod or admin and it will be dealt with.

Rep serves a role almost as important as inflating Stalker's e-penis - methinks being able to see a bit of community feedback when you check your control panel makes life more interesting :)

We debate issues of morality, issues of right and wrong along with those of politics or practicality largely on what we feel. The statement that you are wrong; says little more than on a certain premise basis you are wrong or on a certain emotional basis you are wrong. And it is most often the latter that people express.

Reputation in this context is integral to debate, it says just as the concepts of right and wrong do that I disagree with you or find your basis of reason to be unjust. Between a man feeling disgusted with another and giving him negative reputation, and between a man beating another in debate there is simply a difference of the public forum in which he chooses to make his emotions known.

If you've no reason to respect the sender you've no reason to care but if you’ve reason enough then be glad they can speak it that you might consider it. I must say that in certain cases reputation serves good functions whether ‘negative’ of not. Respect has no basis if you cannot do anything but and in some cases disappointment is all that can be expressed, and that perhaps better in private.

It's only because "unit" had in his first post "don't neg rep me" from a previous he was neg repped ,but not for any good reason. So not only he wanted the thread closed, but this neg rep thread pops up. Problem is you all priorities are stupid, lets say an EXTREMELY bad speller, or someone shooting pron spam links, etc etc. Well "unit" types and spells very well AND makes logical arguments, you should be adding to his rep !!! not because you mat disagree with him or me or the thread. Rep points are quite cool, but you need the admin to enforce.

Quetronmakes logical arguments

Though that's subjective, at very least, in the case of Penguin_Unit.

The reputation system is nice even though it's sometimes abused, for example people "returning favour" or simply revenging which is just stupid. If some forum members don't like the reputation system they can always turn it off from their part.
