You should leave "hardcore" out of your introduction ,that might help with the odd stares you are getting. Just "gamer" says enough, really.. And "gamers" come in all shapes and sizes these days, they used to be mainly geeks and stuff, because the technology was kinda hard to get the hang of. Its becoming generall├┐ "cooler" by the day tho :nodding:

Saying that you are a hardcore gamer is like stating that you're a level 17 warlock. Great way to meet the chicks and make friends. Keep it up.

i dont think you can sterotype a geek/hardcore gamer what ever you want to call them anymore, a very broad society use computers these days for entatainment and business purposes

I've found that out too, gamers aren't the freaks like in the movies anymore.

I just don't tell people unless the topic comes up about PCs or the latest games, in which case I can't hide my knowledge, and generally, people are happier to have had me be there, than had me not. Meeting people for the first time and saying you are a gamer or just a geek, will result in stares. However IMO, if people stare at you when you say you are a geek, they aren't worth it. I've made plenty of friends who know I'm geeky like that, and I get on great with them.

Mr. Matt's Imagined Situation:
Testicle With Legs (TWL) approaches a group of girls as he has superbly evil designs on one of them.

"Hi," TWL says, wiping his noise and pushing up his glasses. "I'm a HARDCORE 1337 GAMER LOL! I scored over 60,000,000 in Generic RPG 57! You wanna see some screenies?!" The group of girls stares at him curiously, unsure of whether to run away or defend themselves with axes and candles. "WHAT?!" TWL yells. "I'M COOL! C'MON! GIVE ME SOME HOT LOVIN' AND I'LL GIVE YOU SOME COOL WARCRAFT ITEMS! WE COULD EVEN GET MARRIED IN-GAME!" The group of girls turns around and runs away, screaming.
That's what came inside my brain when you said that, anyway. If this has any semblance of truth to it, I would suggest not only that you pretty much deserve those stares, but also that you should probably work on doing the opposite. And lose the word 'hardcore', for crying out loud. Gaming is generally 'cool' these days (though still leave it out of conversations with the fairer sex unless they bring it up), but 'hardcore' implies someone who does nothing BUT gaming, such as the generic geek in the scenario above (which I assume you aren't, but I could be wrong).

Not discussing it with the opposite sex? Whell if they play games aswell I don't see why not talk about it.. Not all the time ofcourse but it could be interresting.

I know quite a few females that play games and we have the odd discussion about games. It just depends on the time and place. As for the geek thing. You dont generally tell people your a geek when you first meet them becuase a lot of people will just sterotype you if you do.
