People play video games. People like video games. All different kinds of people are video gamers. So why do people always have to fall into a distinct group. This planet is getting silly.

testicle with legswell when im talking to people and i mention im a hardcore gamer at first I get an odd stare....

:uhh: I'm not surprised. Of course the simple solution is to not mention you're a hardcore gamer... And certainly don't mention it when you introduce yourself. If it comes up in the course of conversation you might just mention that you play the occasional game.

Gamers don't look like anything. We're just people who love playing/talking about games, and most of the ime computers too. I'm definately not the stereotypical gamer geek. I'm on the football team and have been lifting weights for over a year.

Just because we talk geek doesn't mean we look the part ;).

I usually dont bring up games alot. Problem is, I really dont play games alot at all any more, maybe once a week if im lucky. That kinda defies the whole point of me being at gaming forums these days, but I did used to game a fair bit.

KoЯsakoffNot discussing it with the opposite sex? Whell if they play games aswell I don't see why not talk about it.. Not all the time ofcourse but it could be interresting.

Sure, if they bring it up. Or if you mention it as a hobby and they ask about it. Then you can talk about it as much as you want. But I guarantee you that you're more likely to walk into a woman who doesn't think much of gaming, than you are a woman who's into gaming. The way TWL talks in that first post you'd think that he specifically brings it up with everybody he meets, though it seems as though he doesn't. Regardless of who you're talking to, however, labelling yourself as a 'hardcore gamer' is just asking to be stereotyped. I'm a gamer myself and I instantly had thoughts of a spotty grease ball with glasses sitting in a room when I heard that term, and I'm sure others here did as well. Just saying 'gamer' will usually suffice, and will more likely avoid scorning glances too. You can tell how important it is simply by noticing how soon a person mentions it when running off a list of hobbies; you don't need to tag on 'hardcore' unless you actually do live on them.
