A Pagosa Springs resident is resisting an order by her homeowners' association to remove a peace symbol-shaped wreath from an exterior wall of her home.

Bill Trimarco and Lisa Jensen stand next to their peace wreath at their home near Pagosa Springs on Friday. The couple received a letter Tuesday from their subdivision’s homeowners’ association telling them to take down the sign or face a fine of $25 per day.

"I just wanted to put a message of peace out there," said Lisa Jensen, who hung the wreath Nov. 19. She said Wednesday she didn't intend the wreath as a statement against the Iraq war.

"I was really trying to be in favor of something - peace," Jensen said.

She was informed by letter from the Loma Linda Homeowners' Association that "Loma Linda residents are offended by the Peace Sign displayed on the front of your house."

The letter, citing a use-restriction banning "signs, billboards or advertising structures of any kind" within the subdivision without prior approval, said the wreath had to come down by Friday, or Jensen and husband, Bill Trimarco, would face a $25-per-day fine.

America is free my ass. You can't even put a bloody peace symbol on your house? This is asinine! How is a peace symbol satanic or illegal? Answer me that. Even though I hate the ACLU, this would be a worthy case to exploit...

I hope these homeowners take a giant legal shit on their moronic neighbors for prying into their lives like that...

That's what happens to people that volunteerly live in a place that has a Home Association. They have all types of rules. Like the number of cars you have....what color you can paint your house..etc. What is so surprising about this article. No one forced those people to live there. They can move...buy a new house that doesn't fall under some sort of Home Association an fly their underwear on a flag pole if they like.

Known as the 'peace sign' throughout the 1960's and into the present day, this symbol is the Teutonic rune of death. 1950's peace advocate Gerald Holtom may have been commissioned by communist sympathiser Bertrand Russell to design a symbol to unite leftist peace marchers in 1958. It is clear that either Holtom or Russell deemed the Teutonic (Neronic) cross as the appropriate symbol for their cause. Throughout the last 2,000 years this symbol has designated hatred of Christians. Nero, who despised Christians, crucified the Apostle Peter on a cross head downward. This hideous event resembled the Teutonic cross and became a popular pagan insignia of the day. Thereafter, this sign became known as the 'Neronic cross.' . [/INDENT]

yet again these people that are asking them to take it the peace sign down must be history buff's...

LOL my father built his house in Florida in 1990. At the time he was one of the only people in the neighborhood.

Since then the entire neighborhood has built up and of course they started a homeowners association.

They have tried to harrass my dad and take him to court for not being in compliance with the homeowners agreement.

My dad simply told them to stick their agreement where the sun does'nt shine. He was living there before any of their sorry asses showed up and he never agreed to or signed into their homeowner association so they have no say on what he does or does not do.

The judge agreed with him and threw the case out.

When you purchase a house in a subdivision with a homeowners association, you sighn a legal contract that binds you by the rules of that homeowners association. In some cases you can't have a slate roof, in others you can't have a brick or gravel driveway.

They entered into a legally binding contract, now according to that contract they're being told that they can't have a peace symbol. Boo fucking hoo, it goes.

I hate HOA’s and will never live in one…All HOA’s are good for is appeasing the neighborhood NAZI’s who dictate what you can or can’t do with or to your house. Screw that, if you don’t like that fact that I planted roses instead of daisies you can kiss my ass.

i wish thats how it always worked out though the new subdivision that they built in the middle of what use to be my woods sewed my neighbor because his hunting dogs were to loud, he lost and was forced to sell his hunting dogs

when they built it they forced the guy living across from me to give up part of his woods and now there is a house no more than 100ft behind him

You don't see a problem with that? It abolishes pretty much ALL individuality and right to privacy. It shouldn't matter what the damn neighbors think of your yard, they can't/shouldn't do that. Homeowners association is nazi organization that needs to be neutered.

"Hey HA, can I paint my house?"

"Sure, fill out these forms and choose from the wide array of colors. Would you like white, brown, or yellow?"

Can't even put a damn wreath up on your house...so goddamn stupid.

They signed away that right, it wasn't taken from them against their will.
